Tony’s Playlists: 10 Bouquet Toss Songs You Won’t Hear at a Wedding (But Should)

September 15, 2015 by Tony Schwartz

Other than {Insert Current Number One Pop Song Here}, no other song will have the ladies running to the dance floor like stephanie-justin-bouquet-toss-songs-trophy-lakethe bouquet toss song.  But oddly, while the bride is making sure every part of her day is unique and reflective of her style and personality, they often play it safe with the music and opt for Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”, Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” or Shania Twain’s “Man, I Feel Like A Woman!”.

Seriously, quit selecting those songs.

Okay, I’m kidding: don’t get me wrong, those are fine selections that will get your single friends to the dance floor.  But why not get creative and throw your girls a curve ball that will surprise and delight them, let alone be a refreshing change of pace?

First, a presentation note.  I often ask my brides to select three songs for the bouquet toss sequence.  One, for introducing the bouquet toss and inviting all the eligible ladies to the dance floor.  A second song for setting up the presentation and creating the right “competitive” atmosphere.  And finally, a third one for when the bouquet takes flight.  It is a personal preference, and I think the overall presentation is better, but it isn’t a requirement.

So, without further ado, here are 10 Bouquet Toss Songs You Won’t Hear At A Wedding (But Should!):

Iggy Azalea – “Fancy”
Just a hunch, but this might be *THE* bouquet toss song of 2014. We’ll see.

Gwen Stefani – “Hollaback Girl”
This is a great song to remind your girls of the day when you all ruled the high school halls.

Little Big Town – “Little White Church”
A great country alternative to “Man, I Feel Like A Woman!”

INXS – “Need You Tonight”
Everyone loves this 80s throwback! I played it often for 80s themed ladies nights – so I know it will work for your bouquet toss!

Spice Girls – “Wannabe”
Back in the day, this song was HUGE. I have yet to meet a woman that doesn’t know every word to this song.

Beastie Boys – “Girls”
The title says it all.

Motley Crue – “Girls, Girls, Girls”
As does this one. If you love 80s hair bands, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Lenny Kravitz – “American Woman”
I remember this song vividly from Austin Powers when Heather Graham made her first appearance in the film. Everyone loves an American woman.

Destiny’s Child – Independent Women
This is another one of those throwbacks to your junior high and high school days. Classic “girl power” song.

Cake – “Short Skirt/Long Jacket”
This is one of those songs that nobody thinks about until the moment they hear it. Kind of like Capital Cities – “Safe & Sound”.

Sex & The City Theme Song
I mean, obvious, right? I could have picked the theme song from “Clueless” or “Legally Blonde” here, too.
