December 30, 2015 by AaronAbramson

My name is Aaron Abramson, and I am a Mobile DJ. For the past several years, I have been a video blogger, making videos of my DJ events, and sharing them on my YouTube Channel. I have learned much from trial and error, as well as taken several courses about online video, and today am sharing with you what I have learned so that you too may Video Blog for both Fun and Profit.

Myth: Video Blogging Isn’t Necessary for DJs

Whenever I speak to other Mobile DJs on the Facebook groups, or at regional and national conventions, a common comment I get is “I don’t need video for my DJ business”. Now, I am unsure if this is an accurate statement that they truly believe they don’t need video, or if there is an underlying fear of not knowing HOW to do video.

Truth: Video Blogging is Essential for the Mobile DJ

We live in the 21st century, the Information & Internet age. Take a simple look at YouTube’s Statistics and you can see we are in an era where Video is more important than ever before. Video is one of the easiest forms of content to be consumed, it can be both entertaining and informational, and video can be watched anywhere at any time on almost any device. Businesses that do not use video today are like businesses that did not have websites 10 years ago.

Myth: You need a degree in Video Production to Video Blog

Many people think that they are unable to make a video because they do not have the right knowledge, or software, or camera technology. They think that a college degree is required to make videos that look good. This may have been the case in the 1990’s, but not today.

Truth: If you have a Smart Phone, you can Video Blog

We live in an amazing world where the sum of human knowledge fits in the palm of your hand. But not only that, it can take pictures too! I’m talking about smart phones. Smart phone technology has improved by leaps and bounds in the last few years, and it is easier than ever to capture and record high definition video. In fact, I’m positive that if you have a smart phone, you’ve recorded video with it already.

With the help of a couple easy-to-use apps, you can edit & upload your videos directly from your phone to your YouTube account within minutes. No college degree necessary!

Myth: Only other DJs will watch your videos

This one really isn’t a myth, because if you make your Videos like 99% of DJs out there, then your videos will only be watched by other DJs. Most DJ Video Logs are made by DJs for DJs, and I’m not saying this is a bad thing… IF your goal is to show off to other DJs, or help other DJs become better at what they do. But if you want to turn your videos into $$$, then consider who the audience for your videos should be.

Truth: Past & Future Clients will watch, like & share your videos

Once I began making my own video logs for my clients, I discovered something. My clients LOVED watching the video logs I made for their events! Not only that, but they shared them with their friends and family. On top of it all, those friends & family started contacting me to book me for their own events. When I ask a new client how they heard about me, I often hear “I saw one of your videos online”.

So there you have it, I hope you can begin see the power and value that Video Blogging can have on your business as a Mobile DJ. I look forward to sharing with you in the coming weeks & months more ways to grow your business with video and easy to use technology.
