The Truth About DJ Prices

As the creator of the national “State of the DJ Industry” report with 3,400 completed surveys over the last three years, and despite a bachelors’ degree in business (concentration in marketing) and a minor in economics, the one question I get from opinionated DJs across the country is: “Matt, why won’t you ask about price?” The simple answer is, “I can’t. It’s irrelevant.”

Price is nothing more than the amount of money expected for
something in exchange. Is price based on event type? What about
hourly rate? Deliverables (like lights, photo booths, etc.)? What’s
included? In what region geographically? Etc.
