Stacking Habits Part 2

Last week we discussed the initial steps of stacking your habits in your favor.  This week we continue with your next steps to make those habits really work for you.


Next, clear your head.  Get everything out of it.  You and I both know that you really don’t get a good night’s sleep if you’re too busy worrying about things for the next day, the fight with your spouse, what didn’t get done.  That’s why stacking your habits is SO IMPORTANT. Without stacking habits we cannot show up and be as efficient and productive as we could be. Clearing your head is vital before a meeting with someone who can affect your entire business…you know, your potential customers.  Too often I find people are not truly focused on the one person that they need to be focused on to affect positive change in their business. How do you do this? Same exercise as before. Stop. Take TWO MINUTES and get this done before you go into your meeting.


Finally, stack your habits backwards.  What? Lay out your next twelve months.  Where do you want to be? What are your goals in each of your six facets (marketing, sales, operations, planning, production and performance)?  Get together with your team and go through each person’s current responsibilities. Discuss any changes for their future responsibilities that may be coming to get you where you want to be in the next twelve months.  Then, work a plan backwards. In order to be there in twelve months, where do you have to be at 9 months, 6 months, 3 months, 1 month, next 2 weeks, next week to achieve that goal?


Don’t shortcut this process.  Stacking your habits is one way to get the most effective use of the time you have available to you.
