Get the Wedding Photographer and Videographer on Your Side (You’ll Be Glad You Did)

September 27, 2017 by Jordan Nelson
I'd like to think I'm pretty great at being a DJ; I can read a crowd, inject emotion into my announcements, and mix music well. One thing I'm not great at, however, is being my own photographer. Whether I'm running out of time to take pictures of my setups because the wedding is about to start or because I'm too into the moment to remember to grab my camera, I rarely get any pictures from my events. When I do remember to snap a couple shots, they're usually dimly lit, somewhat grainy, and suffering from my unsteady arm. No matter how well I frame the shot or adjust the brightness, they always appear to have been taken on my iP... [read more]

What to Do with Those Screens

July 31, 2017 by Steve Sharp
I find it sad that the heyday of music video (creatively and in popularity) happened LONG before it was relatively easy and practical to manipulate or even simply MIX music videos, as DJs do with music. Now that it IS possible, it's now RARE that music videos seem to generate the kind of excitement they once did. COMPUTERS HAVE CHANGED EVERYTHING The major software packages today for DJs using music video are: Serato, Virtual DJ, and Mix Emergency (which piggybacks off Serato). Each have their pluses and minuses. My advice: Find a combination of controls, computer, and software that you're most comfortable with. Get something good, learn to ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Video Montage On A Monitor Instead Of A Projector

July 27, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. Another audio/visual idea. I've got some clients coming up who want to do a video montage and my experience with video montages is that they are difficult, at best. There always seems to be an issue with the laptop, there's an issue with getting it fired up to the projector, it doesn't start right away and it's a big production to show a seven, eight-minute video. So about four years ago I had a client, who I have actually gone on to do four more events for, who I suggested, how about we just do a DVD, put it in the DVD player, hook it up to a monitor and let the monitor run all night looped and that way people can see the video montage, not worry about the music, it doesn't matter when they get to see it, but they'll see it at some point. I said this to my clients yesterday, they loved the idea, ... [read more]

What Do I Do with These Screens?

June 11, 2017 by Steve Sharp
As if DJs didn’t have enough to keep them busy, there’s always more: music videos! Music video can be: the “edge” that puts you above and beyond your competition; or some other dumb thing everyone does that no one pays much attention to; or...BOTH. Based on my experiences, I have ideas to share about how to make it more of the former and less of the latter. But first let’s look at how we got to today, in terms of music video’s development. The age of music video EXPLODED in the early 1980s, parallel to the explosion of cable television. Did you know: that people used to have antennas on the roofs of their homes in order to get a max... Why You Need Videos For Your Business, Now!

June 8, 2017 by Jason Rubio
Question: have you ever heard of Coca Cola? Of course you have and so has nearly everyone else in the world! My wife and I have had the privilege of traveling around the world to visit many different countries and I noticed that everywhere we went, Coca Cola was available! People associated Coca Cola with the United States and always told us at any restaurant we visited, that they had Coca Cola available (though we rarely ordered it). My point is, nearly everyone knows about Coca Cola and yet you can hardly go one entire day, without hearing or seeing their commercials. Marketing is essential to their success and yours! Advertising and marketing are essential in today's digital and social media world. Along with the evolution of mobile Marketing has truly changed. Gone are the days of getting by with wo... Capturing the Audio Action

May 25, 2017 by Mark Evans
Over the last few Mobile Beat Las Vegas shows I’ve had the fun job of interviewing DJs, vendors and presenters. One of the challenges of recording at these shows is the noise in the background so I started looking for a simple mic system for the camcorder. In previous years we tried a hand-held mic and cable but that was clumsy and several times we had people almost trip over the cord, so, for safety reasons I wanted to go wireless. I found a great mic system to record the interviews: the Audio Technica ATW-1702, a System 10 Camera-Mount Digital Wireless Mic. ADJ’s Next-level AV3 Video Panel Impresses with Higher Resolution 3.91 Pixel Pitch

May 19, 2017 by Mobile Beat
ADJ is pleased to announce that the brand new AV3 Video Panel is now shipping. Offering a tight pixel pitch of 3.91mm (0.25”) as well as bright output and high color contrast, the AV3 is the perfect LED video solution for situations where the panel may be viewed by an audience close-up. It also has an incredibly low price for such a product, opening LED video walls up to installations and productions for which they previously would have been out of budget. Building on the success of ADJ’s first LED video panel, the hugely successful AV6, this new product inherits many of the popular traits of the original model but allows a shorter effecti... “Visualize” New Income Streams

April 30, 2017 by Michael Anderson
It wasn’t long ago when only the high end, most progressive entertainment and A/V companies offered expensive, cutting-edge upgrades like video screens and projection at their events. But just a quick look at Facebook on any given day shows that even modestly priced, single-operator DJs in every market are doing this now and providing these services at their typical weekly events. If you haven’t jumped into this lucrative and easy upsell, it’s probably because you haven’t realized just how simple and inexpensive it has become. But where to begin? What kind of projector should you buy? How much should you spend? What should you look for in ... [read more]
