Platinum People: Turning MBLV Up to 11

June 23, 2019 by Michael Cordeiro
This year marked my ninth year coming to Mobile Beat Las Vegas and my first as a staff member. What an incredible experience, to be on the inside and go behind the scenes of the production and execution of the conference. The amount of hours, staff dedication and planning that go into MBLV each year is staggering. This conference really is a labor of love to give the DJ industry a solid, positive platform that helps us grow individually and collectively. Not everyone is going to have the opportunity to be a staff member (thank you Ryan and Dan), but the next best way to maximize your learning experience at MBLV is through the Platinum Pass. Two years ... [read more]

New MBLV23 People: DJs Rock Vegas

June 22, 2019 by Michael Cordeiro
Another successful and enlightening Mobile Beat Las Vegas conference is in the books. Even though preparations for MBLV24 are already in the works, we wanted to get some feedback from first-time Mobile Beat Las Vegas attendees. The number one priority of the Mobile Beat staff is to build upon the success of the previous conference. The goal each year is to load MBLV with fresh ideas and informational content that will help DJs take their performances and businesses to the next level. A big part of that mission is to listen to attendees and add the seminars and workshops that are most valuable to their education. This year the content was exceptional. ... [read more]

Reclaiming Vacation

June 22, 2019 by Dagan White
At the recent Mobile Beat Las Vegas event, mobile DJs from all over descended upon a city many refer to as the Entertainment Capital of the World—a natural location for a conference and trade show aimed at mobile entertainers. While the excitement of MBLV is packed into a few days, it is still important to prepare for the trip as a small business owner. Just like the difference between a suitcase that’s been thoughtfully packed while there’s ample time before a journey, compared to one that’s stuffed minutes before departure, the way we put our business in order before a trip makes all the difference in the world. Controlling Considerations

June 21, 2019 by Joe Bunn
I don’t consider myself a “control freak”, but I do like to have a lot of control over my DJ business. However, even I realize there are times when you have to let some of your tasks go and assign them to other people within your company that you trust. Today I want to talk about what you should probably continue handling yourself, and what you can possibly delegate. MONEY I’m going to be honest with you, you have to keep an eye on your money. What do I mean by this? I’m not saying that you have to be the one that sends out every contract and counts every dollar that comes in, but make sure that if you are NOT doing this, you are getting a... [read more]

Down-Under DJ’s Journey to Success

June 20, 2019 by Dayna Solomon
Across the Pacific Ocean, in the country known for unique animals like kangaroos and duck-billed platypuses, the Great Barrier Reef, and a vast interior desert wilderness called the Outback, DJ Ben Shipway began his DJ journey as a teenager, in a place where DJs were pretty much nonexistent. In the small town of Dalby in the state of Queensland, Australia, Shipway says, “If you went to a party there would be a stereo or a bluetooth speaker playing music —and that’s it.” Now with 500 events on his resume since joining the Brisbane-based G&M Event group in 2013, Shipway has been building a solid reputation as a pro event DJ. The combination of... [read more]

The Truth About DJ Prices

June 19, 2019 by Matt Martindale
As the creator of the national “State of the DJ Industry” report with 3,400 completed surveys over the last three years, and despite a bachelors’ degree in business (concentration in marketing) and a minor in economics, the one question I get from opinionated DJs across the country is: “Matt, why won’t you ask about price?” The simple answer is, “I can’t. It’s irrelevant.” Price is nothing more than the amount of money expected for something in exchange. Is price based on event type? What about hourly rate? Deliverables (like lights, photo booths, etc.)? What’s included? In what region geographically? Etc. Read the rest of th... [read more]

Jock from the Rock Helps Digital DJs Roll

June 19, 2019 by Dan Walsh
He’s not the first European DJ to cross ocean and continent to grace the Mobile Beat Las Vegas stage. But, as far as we know, Phil Morse, founder of Digital DJ Tips, is the first to come from Gibraltar. It’s a tiny piece (2.6 square miles) of British territory that sticks out from the Spanish mainland into the Mediterranean Sea. From this pleasant, subtropical base, Morse, who founded and continues to run one of the leading educational sites for DJs, will travel to Las Vegas this March to help DJs raise their website game. We caught up with Morse to get the scoop on his DJ background and how he ended up providing some of the best online education... [read more]

Genesis Jones Spreads the Love

June 18, 2019 by Michael Cordeiro
We all admire the athletes, actors, music artists and fellow DJs that seem to be at the top of their game. Their lives look so great. They have the career, money, relationship and lifestyle we aspire to. We also tend to overlook the amount of persistence, faith, rejection, sweat and tears it took to reach that level of success. How many times did they hear “NO” before getting that one “Yes” that gave them the break they needed? Anyone that has been in the entertainment field long enough can tell you that it is always changing and highly competitive; and success is fleeting. The ones that make it big are the people willing to work tirelessly and ... [read more]

The BPM Supreme Mobile App

June 17, 2019 by Staci Nichols
I am genuinely excited about the new BPM Supreme mobile app for a number of reasons. I’m just going to say my one complaint about the app right off the bat, and then I’ll discuss all the stuff I can’t believe I ever lived without! No surprise with a brand new app, but it has been glitchy for me on my phone. You know you really love an app when you power through the glitches to keep using it. Definitely true in my case...and I’m sure BPM Supreme will be rolling out updates quickly to get the app running smoothly. So when you open the BPM Supreme app, you see seven sections: Top Downloads, New Releases, News, Exclusives, Curated Sets, Radio Char... [read more]
