DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Microphone Placement For A Ceremony.

October 11, 2018 by DJ Jay
DJ tips in under a minute. This is how I put my mics now at weddings. The mike is about five or six inches below the officiant, the bride and the groom, sits in the middle like this, as you can see, because once they're up here talking, I really can't intrude on them. But what ends up happening is everyone is clearly heard, it's not in their face and I don't have to sweat the bride and groom not being picked up. I've done it this way where I am today at Park Manor about nine times. If you go to some of my Park Manor videos, you can actually see and hear part of the ceremony and you'll see how clear it is. So if you've got to put a mike in the ceremony, not only having that bad boy to protect from wind if you're outside, but put it in the middle of the three of them and you'll find it works really, really well... DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Buy A Gobo Projector And Any Letters Of The Alphabet You Need.

October 4, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. I had a thought, it's not an original, new thought, but it's something I've discussed with other DJs over the years, these are Source Four Juniors and as you can see or maybe not see, they run $250, $300, $350, you can find them out there on the Internet maybe even used for $200, but if you want to make an investment in something that might have a good return, buy one of these, then go to a place that sells Gobos and don't get customs, get stock. Just get every letter of the alphabet or look at the names of the brides and grooms you have coming up and get the groom's last name's letter. Add this on as either a freebie or as a sell and say, I also provide your last name as a Gobo on the dance floor. If they want a customer, then figure out a price for it, but just somethin... DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Free Events And Charity Events, May Not Lead To More Bookings.

September 27, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. This is footage of a school event I do every year for free. I do it for free, because the little SWAT guy you're going to see come over here in a second is my son. There he is right there. That's one of the two that go to this school and every year they do a festival and they do it for charity for their school and donations. So I offer to do it for free so my kids can see what I do for a living and they can see me having fun and I can see them having fun and for the night, I'm the cool DJ. It's a two and a half, three-hour event, it's less than a mile from my house, I'm fine with it. But if you're offered free events for charities and other organizations, unless you firmly believe in the organization or charity, I've got to tell you, offer 50 percent off, don't do it for ... DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Using RCA Cables For Digital Connections.

September 20, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. It's loud here at HARD Fest, but it's DJ tips in under a minute, today, digital hookups. You see right there it says digital. You see red and white coming out of orange. Over here I have two RCAs, but as you see, I'm not plugged in. I'm plugged into the digital. Over here same thing, that's a split RCA white and red cord. It is going to the digital out of the players to the in of the mixer. Why? Because that's what I use. Does it make a huge sound difference? Some will argue it does. Will it be noticeable on this setup? No. On your setup at a wedding? No. If you're in a huge, huge club with some 200,000-watt sound system, you could make an argument, but for the most part, if you have digitals, input/output on mixers and players use your RCA cables. In my own opinion, you do not need to spend $100 ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Stay Off Facebook/Twitter During Your Wedding Or Events.

September 13, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. I've got about 30 minutes before I begin and I wanted to bring up social media at your wedding. It is totally cool to do check-ins. In fact, you should. You should let people know what's going on, you should let people know that you're busy, you should let people know that you have a wedding and where, but during the wedding, stay off Facebook. Don't tweet the bride looks goofy, don't tweet the groom is drunk. At the end of the night, if you took pictures, post them, put a review of your wedding, let people know things went really well, this was a challenge or that was a challenge or I played this song and it was a really good song. Be helpful to DJ's, clients, whoever sees your social media connection, especially clients, because they probably follow you or find you an... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Check The Seating Chart And Arrangement For Your Events.

September 6, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. Ask your clients to send you the seating arrangement. Why? Because you see way back there the cake, there's a good 25 feet between the tables and the cake. So today, even though I'm not a fan of it, and I can explain that in another video if you want, I have speaker over here with a light for safety and a speaker over there and guess where my table is, that's right, I'm right there. Maybe you noticed the table right there; maybe you noticed this table right here. What you're noticing is the photographs that aren't going to happen, because that speaker's now in the way of that table. Again, speaker, table. So if they had sent me the seating arrangement, and I had asked, my own fault, I would've known to say, is it possible to give me 5, 10 feet in front of me? So future,... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Record Yourself And Learn From It.

August 30, 2018 by DJ Jay
-- a minute, record yourself. Not only record yourself, but record yourself and post it if you can. The other thing is see what you say a lot. I have a bad habit of saying the word well. So I start with well, ladies and gentlemen. I also say good evening a couple of times when I probably shouldn't. So make a little note next to your setup, write down what you say and when you say it and start putting checkmarks next to it. Find expressions you like, go to YouTube, search out other DJs, search out masters in the industry, whatever you do, find out what they're saying, try to integrate it into your routine. The other thing is make announcements that you need to make, not that you don't. Right now it's intros, welcome, first dance, father/daughter, mother/son, bridal bouquet, the things that are important. I d... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Top Hits USA Music Service

August 23, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute, another music company to look at. And what I like is this company, Top Hits U.S.A. They actually send you out a disk, it's an MP3/DVD/ROM and this one has 16 CDs' worth of MP3s on it. So you put this in the computer, you rip it into your hard drive and you're done, but here's your backup, which is kind of cool, you've got a disk. They offer it on each month. Let me just put this one down. Here's another month, here's July. Again, I think this one has 15 CDs in MP3 format, all 320s and they offer video. So if you're looking for a source out there for your videos, these come in MPEG-4s on a DVD and these come in MP3s, 320k. So another company to look at. This is Top Hits U.S.A., tips in under a minute.   ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Favorite Piece Of Gear, Rock N Roller Cart.

August 16, 2018 by DJ Jay
DJ tips in under a minute. People often ask me the best piece of gear I own, expecting me to say a CDJ or a DJM or something, but believe it or not, it's right there, that is my rock and rock cart. It is an older one, I think this is about four or five years old and as you can see, it's all folded up nice, it's a small footprint, but the handles come up and the whole things extends out to twice that length. I can carry my two JBL speakers, my coffin, two speaker stands and a bag and do an event in one trip. This has been a lifesaver, because it fits right in the front seat of the car, folds out, does its job. And I think at expo, I'm going to get a new one, because this is the older style with the actual tires that take air, the new ones are hard plastic. So save your back, save your agro, don't rely on hote... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Cake Table Pin Spot Idea.

August 9, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute, Par can, one of the O-clamps and speaker stand. Just about every single wedding I do some of this gear gets left in the garage, but after speaking with DJ Mikey Mike doing it from scratch and direct sounds, he gave me an idea that I have heard about before, but haven't tried that I'm going to probably this weekend, that light and that speaker stand are now going to become a cake table pin spot. That's right, I'm going to go set it up, see how it looks and try it out and then I'm going to offer it as a little bit of either an upgrade to my clients or maybe even a little freebie, just a little throw in for them being cool and me needing a little bargaining tool. But I'm thinking this is probably a $50 to $100 idea. So you've got a spot, you've got a stand, you've got a cake... [read more]
