DJ Tips In Under A Minute:second Laptop And Drive As An Aux Player

August 15, 2019 by DJ Jay
All right. It's me, DJ Jay here, DJ tips in under a minute, going a little long today. We've got a situation here, we have laptop, we have hard drive, but while this is being used with the two USB ports, you have a controller, I realized I have another track and another hard drive. So I'm going to show you what I do to get around the issue of how do I hook up another hard drive to that laptop? Because for me, if I'm in the middle of mixing and playing music, I don't want to stop. So one of the best cables I've ever bought is that one, it's RCA's to mini. If you do not have this, you need this. So I'm going to plug it into the other computer here and what I'm going to do is I'm going to take the song, I'm going to bring it up to the player and then I'm going to play it from there. So there's the track. What'l... [read more]

There's the end of snapping off your power supply like that. Here's the cool thing, it covers up, keeps this protected, but this is the part that always gets messed up, that part of your power supply. Not anymore. Now you've got that and then at the other end, you've got another piece, as you can see right here, because it's early and things aren't open yet. So I'm improvising. And this protects the other end of the power supply. Really cool company, I just acquired one, I'll be using it. You'll see it in my videos from now on and it's the Frayfix.com. DJ Tips In Under A Minute Let Your External HD Rest Before Moving

July 25, 2019 by DJ Jay
DJ tips in under a minute, the end of the night, my wedding is over. Now it's teardown time. Little tip for you, that's my hard drive. So what I've been told, since it has moving parts and if you touch it, you can feel it's spinning is I like to close down Serato, close down the laptop and wait about 30 to 60 seconds before I disengage the drive. Simply said, because I don't want to run into any problems with the drive either crashing or being damaged or anything. So in under a minute, you close Serato, then you wait. So what I will usually do is bring this down a little bit, start to get ready, feel it spin down and then I will close it and pop it. So in under a minute, be good to your drives, your drives will be good to you. See you.   ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Spotify For On And Off Line Music

July 18, 2019 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. This one is a new service -- not too new, but new to some of you, maybe -- called Spotify. Now, Spotify is a music service. You can go on and play songs, pick out music, play them, make a playlist, do whatever you want, but the big thing is this, it's this $10 per month program, their premium service. It not only lets you play songs off your playlist whenever you want, but the big thing is right here, you can even listen when you're offline. So you put together a playlist of music, you go to a gig, you've got music in an offline player, you can now pull it up if you had to. And certain programs will run this, i.e., DJ 2 uses this. So if you have an iPad, iPhone, you have DJ 2 on it or you have a DJ 2 controller, you can now use Spotify offline. So check it out, Spotify, i... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Back Up Folder From An External Drive Serato

July 11, 2019 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. This one is about Serato and drives and music. If you look down here, you see I have a crate called backup. I always use external drives. Every time I do a gig, it's on one of these bad boys, an external drive. So I decided that if the drive goes down, I need something internally. And since I don't carry really any music on my laptops that go to gigs, because it's all external, I'm going to make a backup file, I'm going to fill it with probably 2,000 to 3,000 songs and put it onto my desktop so that when I'm out in a gig, if the drive should go down -- hopefully it won't, but if it did, I'd have music immediately ready and going. Now, a lot of people will say, I only use internal, that's cool, I only use external. So it's not a give and take, it's really what you prefer. ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Mark Ferrell Com

July 4, 2019 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. This is Mark Ferrell. There's his name. He has a program called the MarBecca Method. It's a training method, comes in, I believe, gold, bronze, silver, might even have platinum different levels DJs go and attend this. They learn all the intricacies and ins and outs of being a better DJ, a better speaker, a better MC and most importantly, a better entertainer. I saw him speak in Las Vegas in 2000 and it was captivating. It has to do with being a respected professional individual and being a great entertainer as a DJ. So his technique and his thoughts are a little bit different than what you might be accustomed to, but it is well worth going over his website, reading it and maybe signing up to get something like his Getting Your Worth seminar. I am going to, because I need ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Tuesday Night Music Live

June 20, 2019 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. I know I've talked about these guys before, they're friends of mine, I do a lot of videos with them, it's John Young over at the Disc Jockey News. But he has this new feature on Tuesday nights live that he's doing with Brian S. Redd. They're doing a twohour chat session, I caught it tonight and it's all about music and what are you playing and tonight's was songs for your dance floor from 2001 and it's a Tuesday night live music thing. And then over here, they've got a chat session going and it's actually really, really cool. It was great to talk about old music, great to hear about this stuff and it's live and it's a different year or decade every week. And the cool thing is we do all these shows and we want to learn, we want to see things and this is just a continuatio... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Fiverr For Voice Drops And More

June 6, 2019 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. This is a site called Fiverr. They've got a lot of things going on, but if you notice in the search box, I have DJ drops and that is because I can go on this site and get all these different people, men, women, accents, no accents to do drops for me. So I've got a gig coming up in the next two weeks and I need to get a couple DJ drops done. Now, I could call one of the many DJ drop companies out there and they do a good job, but $25, $35, $40, whatever probably still worth it, but I just want to get a quick voice drop. So for $5, I think I'll go for it. Now, if you look up here, you see graphics, design, digital marketing, writing, translation, video animation, all sorts of cool stuff. This is Fiverr. By the way, did I mention everything costs $5.00? So need something do... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Modern Client Emails

May 30, 2019 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute, dealing emails nowadays. I'm finding emails come in with questions like this, but they don't end with anything. So I get this a lot, I get one-line emails, I'm getting married, are you available on this date question, if you are, how much are you question. So I respond in kind, I speak the language of my clients, meaning if you send me a one-line email, I send you a one-line answer and my answers tend to always end in questions. I'm available for your date, how many hours do you need me question. Conversations in email have become more of texting than emails. The big, huge replies may still work in a lot of moments, but man, I'm finding more and more of my newer clients, the younger clients, especially you're speaking to me in emails just like it was a text. So I end up ... [read more]
