And see, you can. So you cover your table up with this beautiful item black or white, unzips from a company called Skrim King, just skrimking.com, I'll put it in the description. DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Facebook DJ Groups.

June 7, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute, Facebook. Yeah, that place. So a lot of DJ groups, groups about complaining, and sharing, and you know you're a DJ, and playlists, and support, and against bullying, and outreaching, and channels, and DIY, and mobile, awesome. Join a group, create a group, do something, but just be careful, because more and more these groups kind of become somebody that started its place to run and give their opinion on things and if you can draw from it, awesome, if you can learn from it, better, but kind of take it with a grain of salt. When they first started, I was like this is the end of it, this is awesome, this is great, but the more I use them the more I'm like, I don't know. So DJ tips in under a minute, Facebook, join a group or start a group, but be in a group. Out.   ... [read more]

Getting Control of the Situation – By Dan Walsh

June 5, 2018 by Dan Walsh
Hey young DJs, gather round for a story about long ago...Once upon a time, Mobile Beat was one of the few places where DJs could find info on the latest and greatest gear, to help them make purchase decisions. Then, a wondrous thing, called the World Wide Web, arrived. Soon this web became the primary source for every kind of information, for DJs, just like everyone else. Thus the need for Mobile Beat's “DJ Shopper” features faded. The magazine still discusses tech stuff, but not as the primary source of buying assistance for our readers. But that's ok. Thankfully, there are still plenty of gear-related topics to talk about on these pages. In th... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: How To Angle Your Gear Up.

May 31, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. You see the gear, the gear's in the case. No big deal; right? But if you look, you can see the gear goes up at an angle. Let me show you from the side, a little easier to see, the gear's lifted up in the case. I've got Velcro on my power strip, I can move that around, but I've always liked the gear kind of coming up to me at an angle. This might give you a better shot, got a little lighting issue here, but you can see the gear's raised up. This is super easy to do and I'll show you how I did it and it's pretty inexpensive. Right underneath here on either side I have one of these. This is one of those cheap little doorstops you see, it's rubber, it's even treaded so the plastic grabs it. Now you see the whole case is off kilt, but there's the other one inside. So DJ tips ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: How To Find Your Next Phrase Point To Mix.

May 24, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute, mixing. I'm going to link a video from Bobby [sic] Blends, Blends Gone Wild that I just watched. In the description on this one, that's the one you really want to watch. This is just getting you into it. If you're new to mixing, you've got to deal with 32 beats, 8 bars equal 1 phrase and you mix on phrases or begin your mixes on phrases. So what I did was I set cue points. I simply got to the very beginning of the song, set a cue point and then in Serato, ITCH or Scratch Live, I hit this button that says 32. That's a 32-beat loop. At the end of it, I set another cue point and it's just so I could listen through and see what it sounds like in each phrase. So if you're new and you can't find the phrase, can't find the spot to mix on, try this as a trick, start setting 32-be... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Get A Wedding Wire Account For Your Reviews.

May 17, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. This is my WeddingWire account. You see right up here WeddingWire and you see Picture Me, you see my information and you see my rating. And what I do at the end of every event is I ask clients if I can forward them a review. Then they go in and they write up a review for me. So I have these reviews and it's a place that clients can then go and see reviews from other brides. I happen to have the free WeddingWire account. There are, I believe, two or three levels above mine that you can pay for and they're rather expensive. The DJs that pay for them tell me they're well worth it. So I might look into that, but if you don't have a WeddingWire free account, get one and then at every one of your events, write a review. It's a great source for brides looking for reviews on you ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: How To Make Your Music Folders Into Crates In Serato.

May 10, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. How to make crates, which are in Serato/library at your intro where your music is stored. They're over here, you see one says "Hunger Games," one says "Creedence Clearwater." I want to show you how easy this is in Serato. So if I hit this button here, it says files, I get a dropdown window. So I've got my music, I'm going to go to my documents where I know I have some music. Let's see, here's one, artist. I'm going to take this one that says artist, I'm going to drag it down here to the bottom and you should see something crop up and there's a crate. So anything I drag from here as a folder down to here where it says plus, that crate is then created in that name. So if I click on it, here we go, this is a Promo Only disk and it's in under a minute.   ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: A New Service For Taking Credit Cards.

May 3, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. I don't know about you, but with my business, about 99 percent of it I get payment in checks or sometimes even cash, but I was looking for something to take credit cards. I use PayPal, because I have a PayPal account and it's easy, you can invoice clients, everything works fine, but I saw this and decided I would at least open an account. So there you go, that's the little Square swiper. If you look, you can see it has that slice in it where the credit card goes. I haven't used it yet. I have an account, it's drawn to my bank. So when I do use it, it would be deposited directly. There's no fee. It is a 2.75 percent per swipe. So if you don't accept credit cards and you're looking for something to have at a gig in case the client says, you're awesome, let's extend an hour,... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: New Pioneer Rekordbox App.

April 26, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. If you are using a Pioneer CDJ player, you're using Rekordbox, hopefully, an MP3 program that allows you to put loops and cue points and get your waves put together and set up beat grids and everything else. Well, because of the ex-DJ Arrow using a Wi-Fi off of a mobile device, there it is, it is a free app in the app store. You can load tracks, you can prepare tracks, you can do whatever you want. You go in, you find a track, I have two loaded in here now, put in Shapeshifter's and boom, playing. Once it's fully loaded the track, I'll start to get the wave form built and have that run across so I can do all sorts of cool stuff. So if you're using CDJs, if you want to get the ex-DJ Arrow or if you just want a cool free app to mess around with on your phone with music, thi... [read more]
