A Sneak Peek At The VMS4.1

American Audio threw a party for a group of So Cal DJs on September 15 to introduce the widely anticipated VMS4.1 Digital Work Station. The temporary stage at “party central” in the company’s headquarters was set up to look like something out of the Academy Award ceremony. The background was very appropriate, says American Audio National Sales Manager Tom Freret, because the new digital work station is indeed destined for superstardom. In this interview Tom shares his views about the coming out party, and its guest of honor.

So, how did the VMS4.1 launch party go?

“It couldn’t have been better. We had a great group of prominent DJs from the LA area show up. We enjoyed some great food and prizes and had the chance to get some firsthand feedback about the new VMS4.1 before it hit the market.”

What kind of feedback did you receive?

“Let me put it this way. I’ve been so pumped up about the new VMS4.1 that I feel like jumping up and down. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever been this geeked about a new product. I think we really hit a homerun here. So before the party started, I was a little worried – what if a lot of the DJs who show up to our party are just sort of ho-hum about our baby? That would have been pretty painful.

“Well I didn’t have to worry. It didn’t take long at the party for me to realize that the DJs in that room were just as thrilled about the VMS4.1 as I was; they were really blown away by all its cool features, its performance and the real improvements it represented over the original VMS4.”

Can you describe those improvements?

“The original VMS4 truly broke new ground in affordable digital work stations. It’s fair to say that there was nothing else like it before. We learned a lot of lessons by blazing a new path with a unique product and we took all those lessons and applied them to the development of the VMS4.1

“For example, compared to the VMS4, the VMS4.1 has a completely new internal hardware, four times more output, a larger power supply, brighter LEDs on knobs and buttons, stronger facer mounting, vastly improved sound quality and significantly upgraded mic sound, quality and output. It also has a new, more linear EQ design that works better with Traktor software, and it has more advanced cell phone interface shielding so it’s more reliable in any environment.

“Another very important feature is that the VMS4.1 has our new and unique American Audio D Core processing so it’s faster and smoother than our earlier products.”

What about in terms of software — what is in the VMS4.1?

“The VMS4.1 is using the same Virtual DJ LE software as its predecessor, but this will be updated. When it is, this update will be available at no cost to VMS4.1 owners.”

So the VMS4.1 represents a significant advance over its predecessor, will it be more expensive too?

“No, the new product has the same MSRP as the original VMS4 when it was introduced. We’ve enhanced our technology, but the VMS4 mission is the same: to provide the best affordable digital workstation solution. “

So when will the VMS4.1 be available for us to buy?
“It will be available in the first week of October. We don’t have long to wait — and I’m very excited.”
