The Gaga-Madonna Wars. Safe School Top 30 (2-12-11)

February 13, 2011 by Ric Hansen

Lady Gaga took a page from the Madonna marketing manual and has written a few new chapters of her own. Is it just by chance that her new single dropped on Friday going into the Grammy weekend. I’m thinking not. In 36 hours it had over 2000 spins on US radio stations and already has charted.  It’s number 1 on I-Tunes.

“Born this way” has more than a coincidental similarity to Madonna’s “Express Yourself” and that has the gossip columnist going nuts…Madonna actually reacted by posting her “Express Yourself” video on her web site. Although neither Gaga or Madonna did not comment publicly right away, on Saturday, Madonna posted a video from more than 20 years ago on her YouTube channel of a live performance of the song Express Yourself. It was shot during the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards. Nothing is better for selling records and causing talk, than a little controversy.

The number one lesson from Marketing 101: Stand out from the crowd. Gaga arriving at the Grammys in an egg, hatched the grammy’ most outrageous entrance ever.
