The Super Funky Soul Wedding Cocktail Hour

May 4, 2016 by Gregg Hollmann
funky_cold_medinaWant to get those feet tapping before your wedding reception even begins? Then consider this "Super Funky Soul Cocktail Hour." I was inspired to compile this playlist after attending a recent DJ association meeting where a crafty turntablist named "DJ Audey B" from Andres Entertainment (AES) was spinning feel good funk tracks by the likes of James Brown and King Floyd. His set definitely put our group in a great mood! The playlist that follows starts slow and funky before ramping up in tempo, and explores various sub-genres of funk and soul, with even a touch of hip hop later in the set. Representative artists includes James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, Cameo, Kool & the Gang, Stevie Wonder, Michae ... [read more]

The Sony PS-HX500 is Vinylicious

May 4, 2016 by Michael Cordeiro
Like most DJs I consider myself an audiophile. I love collecting and listening to rare and odd tracks. I enjoy hitting the flea markets and looking for old Surf guitar, rockabilly, old school 80’s hip hop (the good stuff) and classic rock albums. I remember my father learning to play the lead guitar part to all the Venture’s albums while teaching me the rhythm section. He did this by ear, note by note playing each track of the albums over and over again on our 1970’s fake wood grain cabinet Hi-Fi system. Nothing sounded better. We still have all those old original albums. I try not to touch them though. I know how hard they are to replace. Eventually I bought all my favorite Surf Guitar albums on compact disc. Truth is that the music just doesn’t sound the same. Converting those warm analog tones to ones and zeros just seems sacrilegious. This music was created by real musician ... [read more]

How to do video projection JUST right – David Rodgers

May 2, 2016 by Mobile Beat
Arguably the most important element of creating a great projected display is in the combination of a projector’s brightness and a screen’s ability to adequately reflect light. The overall result is known as Image Luminance. Simply put, if you want a good projected image, the image needs to be bright enough to be easily seen. It sounds simple enough but there are various rules of physics that must be followed in order to get that perfect image. In order to successfully acquire the right projector an projection surface, you need to be familiar with these basic concepts: (ANSI) Lumens The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) averaged multiple readings of visible light from various angles to determine a standardized unit of measure known as ANSI Lumens. Lumens are the units of measure for the amount of light that a projector is reportedly able to produce. To put it ... [read more]

All-in-one laser solution for DJs and nightclubs – including custom text projection

May 2, 2016 by Mobile Beat
Lasers are becoming more and more popular and especially mobile DJs and smaller nightclubs often request a product that is easy to operate, is capable of projecting tunnel effects, layers and some basic shapes and figures, and most importantly can write custom messages as running text. And of course the laser should be RGB and white light for being able to make the projection fit in with the lighting design. This is quite demanding, but the new Laserworld EL-500RGB KeyTEX offers all these features: Besides being a normal laser system that can be run stand-alone, in sound-to-light mode or controlled by DMX, it also comes with a remote control plus a keyboard for entering text, animating it and doing color changes. The Laserworld EL-500RGB KeyTEX is the successor of the Laserworld ES-400RGB, as it has all the features seen previously in the ES-400RGB – but adds much more on top. This ... [read more]
