Trust The Process Part Two

January 23, 2018 by Mitch Taylor
Trust The Process Part 2 In the previous post we discussed ways to stay top of mind with your clients in the planning process via email and social media.  The key for this is to ensure that your name is on the tip of the tongue when they are talking with family and even friends who just got engaged or may be getting engaged in the future.  When people respond with “Oh my gosh our DJ gave us this great tip for our ceremony and he’s been awesome at taking care of us since we got him” then that is WAY better than someone saying “um…I don’t remember who I booked…I’ll have to look.”  Which DJ would you rather be? ... DJ Lighting Help – What Is An IP Rated Fixture?

January 22, 2018 by Brian S. Redd

I was planning on going outside and doing a comparison of a couple of different LED par fixtures, but it started raining. So I decided to do a different video. So how was I able to do that?

I used an IP rated fixture. In this case, this one right here, the WiFLY EXR HEX5 IP. Now, the WiFLY EXR means it's an extended range, wireless DMX, about 2,500 feet. It is a battery powered fixture as well. The HEX5 is one, two, three, four, five LEDs and they're hex; red, green, blue, amber, white, and UV.

But what I want to talk about today is the IP part. What does that mean? IP, or ingress protection, is a rating to specify the environmental protection of an electrical fixture's enclosure. In this case, we are water resistant. You can't submerse this thing in a swimming pool or a hot tub or throw it in the lake, but it will stand rain and things ... [read more]

Playlists Part 1

January 21, 2018 by Joe Bunn
Creating Playlists can be one of the most time consuming things that you do as a professional DJ, but if you get them dialed in correctly, your job becomes so much easier. Let’s take a look at how I handle organizing a massive music library. I just recently switched from iTunes to using Serato crates, and if nothing else, it loads ten times faster. Regardless of what you use, take advantage of folders and subfolders! Here is the current setup I’m using. My main folders are: Corporate, Decades, Genres, Holidays, The Essentials, This Week, Weddings Let’s start with Corporate. Since these aren’t exactly always couples events, I like to have a corporate cocktail and dinner list under this folder that aren’t so “lovey dovey”. I also have a “cool cocktails” list under this folder that is great for like fashion shows or retail store gigs. Under Decades, I have exa ... [read more]

Smart DJ Tips: What DJs Can Learn From Mark Wahlberg

January 18, 2018 by Jason Rubio
If you haven't heard about the recent Mark Wahlberg story, I'll briefly fill you in. Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams were recently filming for All the Money, and questions surfaced about the gender pay gap issues. Mark had a part in his contract which stated that he could renegotiate his movie fee. Even though he took a significant salary cut from his usual fees, he was still paid over $1 million to do the movie; meanwhile, Michelle Williams also agreed to film the movie, but had a standard clause that allowed for a certain amount of reshoot time if she could make herself available." When it was all said and done, Mark Wahlberg got paid $1 million for his reshoot, while Michelle Williams only received $80 PER DAY, (the standard per diem rate) for the reshoot. After the criticism he received, Mark decided to donate the entire $1.5 million to the "Time's Up Legal Defense F ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Fake It Till You Make It.

January 18, 2018 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute from Psychology Today. Seems weird, but it's about this expression if you're not familiar with it, fake it until you make it. You need the confidence. It's something that most DJs don't talk about, most DJs don't address, but I think it's one of the biggest things that separates the great DJs from the not great DJs. The great ones believe everything they do is correct and believe everything they do is for the betterment of their business and themselves. If you're not there yet, you need to start getting there. Start believing the way you do things is right, but be open-minded to changing things too, but fake it until you make it. You want the big wedding market, you want the big club market, practice, earn it, work for it, but believe it's yours already. This is something that myself and a lot of other people are starting to get into, because I thin ... [read more]

Making Smart DJ Purchases

January 17, 2018 by Jordan Nelson
The season of new products is upon us. Manufacturers are already rolling out new product announcements for the latest and greatest gear that will hit the shelves in 2018. NAMM, the largest trade show for the music business, is taking place in under 2 weeks. While many DJs rush to purchase needed gear in December to take advantage of available tax breaks, many wait until the new year in hopes of new products that will make our jobs easier, more efficient, and dare I say more fun. If you're anything like me and the scores of other DJs I know, you have an addiction (whether large or small) to the gear aspect of our job. Crystal clear loudspeakers, bright LEDs, and wireless microphones are all tempting toys (I mean tools) that are equally useful and enjoyable. I'm just as eager as the next guy to empty my wallet, anger my wife, and fill my garage with shiny new tech, but before you and I ... [read more]

4 Reasons Wedding Suppliers Websites Fail To Book Brides (And How To Turn Them Into Your Biggest Opportunity 2 of 4)

January 17, 2018 by Terry Lewis
Last week we looked at common website flaws, as promised the way to get your ideal clients hunting you is to offer a signature wedding experience that fulfils every one of your avatars needs. The trap many wedding professionals fall into is they create something THEY love, then hope there is a market for it. The smart approach is to validate demand for what your avatar wants first, then create a service around their desires. Why your site must be professionally designed. Firstly, we are in the wedding industry, and I've yet to meet a bride who does not want professional perfection for all aspects of her day - this experience should begin on your website. Secondly, a poorly pres ... [read more]
