I’ve been a member of ALWEP (Alabama Wedding & Event Professionals) group since it began over 15 years ago. The benefits are enormous & the return of investment is great!
Some may ask how is a local networking group that much of a benefit. It’s about building relationships with other vendors. From wedding planners & venue operators to Photographers & caterers. The networking is there.
We meet monthly at a different venue which allows me to meet & talk with a representative of that venue if I haven’t already met them. The meetings also allow me to meet new vendors that come as guests. That first chance to meet a new vendor in a networking environment can lead to a lunch appointment where I can share information about our services.
Like any organization, you only get out of it as much as you put in! Run for an officer’s position. This allows you to have more specific conversations with the members & potential new members. Be on a committee so that you can help steer the organization. Membership and Program Committee are my favorites because of the direct communication with members.
What if you don’t have such an organization in your area? Create one! That’s what I helped do at the beginning. What a better way of connecting with other professional in your area than to invite them to participate in a “like minded” group!
