- Use a professional or professional setting photo of you
- Keep your information up to date
- Make your “description” count
- Use “POWER WORDS” in your summary
- Include volunteer experience
- Customize your user profile URL (if possible)
There are groups you can research to learn, get advice and connect in. You can learn about the newest equipment or techniques and offer advice on what you’re doing through consistent posting or group discussions. You can join up to 50 groups!
With LinkedIn you can conduct research on venues, companies and even people you may be interested in working with. LinkedIn can be an amazing tool if maximized. They offer a blogging platform if you are passionate about communication, a reading list application by Amazon to let everyone know what books you’re reading and which ones you recommend, and with other applications, you can share files or presentations.
Don’t be afraid to connect, make sure you explore all the options of both locals and industry specific connections. You should set a goal to connect to at least 500 within the first 90 days. Accept anyone that offers to connect and reach out to introduce yourself and thank them for connecting, this will build a rapport for you to build into a professional relationship and create the opportunity to accept referrals. (Don’t forget that you should be remembering them for referrals as well.) Don’t just collect, CONNECT!
