DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Offer more than Starbucks as a meeting spot for your clients

September 11, 2016 by Jay Brannan

DJ tips in under a minute, a new meeting place. About six, seven months ago I spoke with a vendor who said she was meeting her clients at local bars and not Starbucks. And I asked her why. And she said, because most of my meetings are at night after, let’s say 6:00 p.m. and she found that clients didn’t want to get all jazzed up on caffeine.

So I said, let me offer this to my clients, because there’s a nice little pub called Champs right near the Starbucks where I had met a lot of my clients. So I started saying, do you want to meet at Starbucks or if you would like, I will buy you a drink over at this place called Champs? And it’s funny, I found about 95 percent o of my clients said, let’s go get a drink. And it’s not a matter of getting alcohol into the mix, because I don’t think that’s professional, but I don’t see a problem with having a drink after work to just kind of unwind after a long day.

So try this out, if you’re over 21 and your clients are as well, ask them if they want to meet for a beer or a coffee, in under a minute.

The passion for music in Jay’s life began before all else. “I don’t remember a time that there wasn’t music around me, or a moment that a song wasn’t playing”, it’s this love affair with music that ultimately brought Jay to his career as a DJ. As a husband and father of two boys, Jay has been a professional DJ for 21 years. Whether in clubs, on boats, at weddings, or in other lands; the passion has never waivered and the love of song only grown stronger. Mobile events are at the heart of Jay’s company, Brannan Entertainment, serving Southern California and beyond. He has spent the last 23 years in the San Diego, CA area now living in Temecula, CA, and life started for him in Boston MA. Boston was the place that taught Jay music was the most powerful form of sound. Working for WBCN FM104.1 in the 80’s, Jay was able to sample the life that would ultimately become his career. The California years have been spent working in clubs, 7 years as the Director of Entertainment for a yacht company, and starting and running his own award winning mobile DJ business. Since 2003, Jay has been a moderator, demonstrator, and product specialist for Pioneer DJ and spends between 5-8 weeks a year travelling for Pioneer. After a long talk with fellow DJ and close friend, Brian S Redd, at the Mobile Beat Las Vegas 2013 show, Jay decided to go after YouTube with his own channel. Helping DJs with his DJ Tips in under a minute, Jay has brought answers to often held questions in the DJ world. “If you give someone help, it will always come back to you”. The good karma practice has served Jay well with almost 2,000,000 views and over 2600 subscribers. “When Ryan Burger asked me about writing a blog, I realized this was another great way to help DJs with what I have gone through and seen”. “The chance to give back to a community that has always supported me is something that I am very excited about”. Gear and work and knowledge all meet up with DJs and their experience, Jay brings a unique perspective with his years of work and having attended over 100 DJ trade shows. The questions are welcome and the answers are free, along with the hopes that the mobile DJ world only gets better at what it does by the support of those like Jay.
