New self-powered speakers combine coaxial design, 2000-watt amplification and DSP control for unprecedented performance from compact cabinets

Cumberland, RI (January 22, 2015)— Denon DJ ( a leading manufacturer of premium DJ products and solutions, today announced the introduction of its new Axis Series of high-output, self-powered speakers. Designed to deliver superb sound for the most demanding portable music playback applications, the product faAxis_media copymily consists of two satellite main speakers (models Axis 8 and Axis 12) and a companion subwoofer (model Axis 12S).

The Axis 8 and Axis 12 both utilize a novel coaxial design where the high frequency compression driver is mounted coaxially (at the apex) of the system’s low-frequency driver. This design—known as coincident mounting—ensures a time and phase coherent output, which markedly improves definition and clarity. The coaxial driver design also reduces the cabinet height by more than 30% compared to conventional speakers, making for compact units with markedly reduced visual bulk for maximized audience sightlines—a critical consideration for live performances.

The Axis 8 and Axis 12 use 8” and 12” low-frequency drivers, respectively. They share the following features in common:

High-power 2000-watt Class D digital bi-amplification
Massive power, light weight and reliability
Precision coaxial drivers
Optimized music performance in a compact enclosure
Long-excursion woofers deliver deep, punchy bass and high acoustic output
Coaxially-mounted 1.75” high-frequency compression driver with 1” acoustic aperture
Speakers’ sound is propagated in a seamless, uninterrupted time envelope
Coaxial design reduces cabinet height by over 30% vs. conventional speakers
Uniform horizontal and vertical dispersion delivers optimum sound coverage
On-board DSP controls an internal 5-band parametric EQ

The Axis 12S powered subwoofer completes the family. Delivering muscular, authoritative low-end response to any setting, the Axis 12S uses a high-power 12″ heat-treated woofer with 3″ voice coil. Other important features:
Input: Female XLR Balanced Differential
Outputs: Full-range Male XLR Balanced; High Pass Male XLR Balanced
Heat Protection: Thermal trigger/Convection fan
Distortion Prevention: Digital limiter/compressor with Red LED Clip Indicator

With a frequency response that extends to 38Hz and maximum SPL in excess of 120dB, the Axis 12S easily handles the toughest assignments. All three speakers offer standard pole-mount 35mm threaded inserts and built-in handles for easy setup and transportability.

“For portable music applications, there is really nothing that combines the superb sound, high output, DSP EQ control and compact size of our new Axis speakers. People have been asking for speakers with top-of-the-line performance, easy setup, and easy transportability that were not visually bulky. That’s why we created the Axis Series—it answers an important need that was unfulfilled,” said Costa Lakoumentas, Senior Vice President for Denon DJ.

MSPRs for the Axis Series are Axis 8 $499, Axis 12 $599, and Axis 12S $599 and will be available Spring 2015.
