This has been an issue for years and years, as dancing styles change. Years ago I would play Rock Lobster or Old Time Rock n Roll in the early 80's. Now you need to be just a little creative, slipping in a slow jam, YMCA, Cha Cha slide, timing is everything. Yes the kids may not like it, but the teachers and parents do. You have to watch you audience between mixes and how each song effects the crowd. I'll tease them the most I think I can get away with, then I'll go a different direction. I perform at more schools (Elem, Middle and High School) than other DJ's in the area, because I know when is to much, understanding song content and watching both the students & teachers reaction during songs. Asking feedback from teachers is very important also. Yes, we all want to be a cool DJ and play the latest dance / hip hop. But, there is more to the picture than being the coolest DJ, having a big sound system and awesome light show. I've built a reputation with school system, then added the bigger sound and lights while adding more money to made at school dances. In simple terms, a wedding is a wedding, a school dance is a school dance and a nightclub is where anything goes, kept it seperate. Peace!!

The tour stop in Richmond was successful on so many levels. You have to understand the type of city Richmond is to the DJ business. There was only a small core of people who felt that getting together and sharing and helping to raise the bar and educate a very uneducated populous about DJing and what a professional DJ does for their clients. I never would have expected a chapter here in the city knowing the talks I have had with so many DJs, I wasn't sure that a chapter could be formed and be viable, but the dedicated people who are in the Richmond chapter pulled it off and with Mobilebeat Tour stopping here and having over 70 people show up from Washington, Charlottesville, Norfolk, Va. Beach and all places in between. It was an incredible night and I don't say things like that lightly. I haven't said a nice thing about anything since 1997.

One other note that needs to be made is the good relations that the Richmond Chapter has with both SEVADJ Chapter in Norfolk/Va.Beach area and the Washington Chapter in DC. We all go to each others meetings and have built some great friendships with other DJs in their respective chapters. Now on to the middle east and bringing peace there.
