Premium Performance Analog Mixing Consoles Offer Class-Leading Sound Quality and Exclusive Features
April 4, 2012
BUENA PARK, Calif.—Yamaha’s MG Mixer line is known for durability, reliability and value. Now, live performance venues like clubs, schools, theaters and churches have a new choice, the premium MGP16X and MGP12X mixers, which will be introduced at Winter NAMM 2012.
High-end features include D-PRE discrete Class A microphone preamps for superior phase response and Xpressive EQ using Yamaha’s famous VCM (Virtual Circuit Modeling) for a more musical sound. Dual Digital Effects, a multi-effect akin to those found on the popular MG series mixers, including an SPX block with reverb, delay and modulation effects and a dedicated REV-X high-density reverb engine, offer unparalleled flexibility to build complex effects and enhance the sound quality.
The mixers also include a Ducker function, which automatically lowers the level of back- ground music to accommodate the voice of an announcer coming in on another channel. Another function, the Leveler, eliminates a common problem by automatically maintaining a consistent sound volume when playing music from an iPod/iPhone or other audio players, even when the sound output level differs from song to song. The included USB port, which allows a direct digital connection to an iPod, iTouch or iPhone, also charges these units.
The useful Stereo Image function narrows the pan balance of the stereo sound source, a feature useful in restaurants and other spaces where the left and right speakers are positioned at long distances apart, or when accompaniment sound is sent to the left channel and the vocal sound is channeled to the right and a more natural stereo image is desired. Mono is also available if required.
“The new MGP series offers a level of audio quality and flexibility unseen in the medium-format mixer marketplace,” said Wayne Hrabak, Marketing Manager, Live Sound, Yamaha Pro Audio & Combo Division. “Direct digital iPod and iPhone integration greatly improves fidelity in playback and allows for the charging and control of various parameters inside the mixers.”
The new premium MGP mixers, constructed of rugged metal chassis, are rack-mountable and include single-knob compression, internal universal power supply and +48Volt phantom power for condenser microphones.

Arriba Cases’ New Sound Series Gear Bags Protect and Transport Speakers, Midi Controllers, Laptops and Tripods
LOS ANGELES – For years, mobile DJ’s and entertainers have relied on Arriba Cases to provide affordable, lightweight protection for safely transporting their lighting fixtures from gig to gig, and now, with the introduction of Arriba’s new Sound Series gear bags, the same protection is available for their audio gear. Designed specifically to fit some of the most widely used audio equipment, Arriba’s Sound Series provides excellent yet lightweight protection against loss and damage that doesn’t cost much, but provides great peace of mind
Arriba’s Sound Series consists of three gear bags that, while designed to the specific dimensions of American Audio products, can also be used with similar-sized sound equipment from other manufacturers. The black nylon material that makes up the exterior of each Arriba Case is attractive yet durable and ready to take on the bumps and knocks of life on the road. Inside the case is high-density, shock-resistant foam covered with a soft but resilient synthetic fabric that cradles audio gear, allowing it to fit snugly and comfortably while safeguarding against nicks, scratches and dings. Adjustable padded dividers offer a more customized fit and help prevent gear from shifting around inside the case during transport. Additionally, all Arriba Cases have sturdy nylon webbing carry straps and “view windows” that make it easy to identify the fixtures inside each bag even after they’ve been packed up, plus they provide a space for personal identification.
Arriba’s new Sound Series cases include:
AS-171 – Deluxe Tripod Bag: This generously sized bag can transport and protect up to two standard speaker tripod stands. It has a large zipper opening for quick and easy removal of the stands. Case size: 43” x 6” x 6” (1092 x 152 x 152 mm); MSRP $48.95.
AS-175 – Rolling Speaker Bag + Stand Combo: Designed for most 15-inch speakers, this bag combo features wheels and a pull-up handle to make transporting speakers between gigs easy and secure. The included Speaker Stand Bag attaches to the side of the Speaker Bag, which has a large outer pocket for speaker cables and other necessities. Case size: 17.5” x 15” x 27.5”/445 x 381 x 686 mm; MSRP $119.95.
AS-190 – Midi Controller/Laptop Bag: This bag is perfect for a variety of Midi controllers in several sizes plus it has an extra compartment that fits up to a 17-inch laptop and a pocket to store cables and power adapters. The Midi Controller/Laptop bag comes with extra pads and dividers to provide a customized and secure fit, regardless of the size or brand of Midi controller. The included shoulder strap makes carrying convenient, and the extra strap on the back slips easily over the handle of a rolling bag for added ease of transport. Case inside dimensions: 19.5″ x 13.75″ x 2″/495 x 350 x 50 mm; MSRP $89.95.
“For years mobile entertainers have been using Arriba Cases for their lighting fixtures, so it was only natural that we expand our offerings to include the same type of lightweight, inexpensive protection for audio equipment as well,” said Brian Dowdle, Marketing Manager for Arriba Cases. “DJ’s and mobile entertainers have found Arriba Cases convenient for not only for safe, easy transport, but also for dust-free storage to protect their gear when not in use. Our aim is to have the Sound Series bags function in the same way for their audio equipment.”

Pioneer DJ presents the RMX-1000: all the potential of software with the hands-on usability of pro-DJ hardware
March 19, 2012
Pioneer DJ presents the RMX-1000: all the potential of software with the hands-on usability of pro-DJ hardware.
Pioneer is setting a new benchmark in pro-DJ equipment, with the awe-inspiring RMX-1000 remix station. Taking a totally new direction to effectors and samplers, the RMX-1000 is a three-in-one system comprising editing software, innovative performance hardware and VST and AU plug-ins.
Technological innovation is in Pioneer’s DNA. So only we could produce a remix station that not only manipulates the input sound, but also lets DJs produce new beats and sounds and trigger personalised samples on the fly. And, thanks to our Quantize function, they’ll always be in time with their sets.
The RMX-1000 serves up all the possibilities of studio effects and beatboxes, with the added physicality of pro-DJ equipment. Intuitive performance interfaces from Pioneer’s flagship mixers and effectors – such as the DJM-2000′s Isolator FX, the DJM-900nexus’s X-Pad and the EFX-1000′s multiple FX chaining – have been evolved and brought together into one unit.
Simplifying these concepts even further, the RMX-1000 uses intuitive DJ controls to manipulate several parameters in macro. Each effect has been designed to work in a totally unique way with the interface, for results previously only possible with hours of studio automation or robot-like performance skills.
While the unit is incredibly simple to operate, DJs can still create a totally unique sound with Pioneer’s remixbox™ editing software. remixbox allows DJs to completely customise the RMX-1000 hardware to their own performance style and load it up with their own banks of samples.
And, by saving their settings to an SD card, DJs can effectively take their own personalised DJ rig with them wherever they perform. Plus, Pioneer plans to upload internationally renowned DJs’ settings and samples to its website so DJs can give themselves a head start.
Using the RMX-1000 as a USB controller for the, included, RMX-1000 VST and AU plug-ins gives DJs the same hands-on feel they get with studio DJ mixes, saving them from hours of editing and breathing new life into studio productions.
The RMX-1000 will be available from May 2012 at a SRP of 599 GBP/699 EUR, including VAT.
Key features of the RMX-1000
1. Club quality and fully customisable remix station unit
The ultimate multi-use unit, the RMX-1000 can be used with mixers, CDJs and laptops in the booth, or with a PC in the studio for recording and producing.
With fully customisable settings, the RMX-1000 offers the kind of flexibility never before seen in hardware. The control parameters can be completely modified using the remixbox software included.
The hardware offers three ways to access settings. Default activates Pioneer’s intuitive factory settings. And User settings can be stored on the unit, or on an SD card to be taken along to the booth – DJs simply plug their SD card in to get immediate access to their personalised controls. And Pioneer plans to make settings from internationally renowned DJs such as Chuckie, Kissy Sell Out, Kutski, James Zabiela, Doorly and Laidback Luke available for DJs to download.
The unit’s user-friendly, intuitive controls are divided into four categories:
Scene FX
- The Scene FX wheel allows DJs to build up and break down tracks by combining ten types of effects.
- Use the top section to build up, adding effects like Noise, Echo and Spiral Up and the bottom section to break down, cutting sounds with effects like Crush Echo, Spiral Down and Reverb Down.
- Twist the central knob to move from Wet to Dry to add pitch and intensity to the effect that’s in play.
- Plus, two sub-parameter dials allow DJs to manipulate the Time and Resonance parameters for even more character.
Isolator FX
- Inherited from Pioneer’s high-end DJM-1000 mixer, the RMX-1000′s isolators allow DJs to change the main audio input’s rhythm and timbre using hi-, mid- and low-frequency bands.
- Plus, three effects are loaded into the dials for even more flexibility: Cut/Add, Trans/Roll and Gate/Drive.
X-Pad – with exclusive Pitch control
- DJs will be itching to get their fingers on the RMX-1000′s intuitive X-Pad. Evolved from Pioneer’s flagship mixer, the DJM-900nexus, the touch-sensitive X-Pad reaches new levels of ingenuity on the RMX-1000.
- DJs can instantly get involved with the unit’s drum samples by tapping the individual sample buttons (Kick, Snare, Clap and Hi-Hat), or by using the X-Pad to roll (repeat) the samples at different speeds.
- DJs can record their own beats and patterns on the fly by switching on Overdub, then use Roll and Mute to manipulate each sample in a variety of impressive combinations.
- The Quantize button snaps each tap of the sample pads to the nearest beat, so DJs always sound on time.
- And for truly unique performances, DJs can add up to 16 samples across the four sample banks, which they can instantly trigger and manipulate during live performance.
- For unprecedented flexibility on the fly, DJs can edit the sample banks through remixbox and even alter them during play.
- And, as if that wasn’t enough, the RMX-1000′s exclusive Pitch knob alters the pitch to add even more character to each repeated beat.
Release FX
- The DJ’s get-out-of-jail-free card, the Release FX allows DJs to elegantly and seamlessly exit complex effect combinations and return to the original track.
- Three modes with three customisable speeds – Spin Back, Echo and Break – allow DJs to choose exactly how they want to return to normal play.
- For even more flexibility, DJs don’t have to exit totally from the engaged effect; they can come partially out and go back in by manipulating the highly sensitive Release switch. Or they can cut the original track out completely so just the engaged effects are heard.
2. Fully customisable with specially designed remixboxsoftware
Designed by Pioneer exclusively for the RMX-1000, the remixboxsoftware allows DJs to prepare mind-blowing sets – while the hardware leaves plenty of room for spontaneity on the night.
And DJs can use the software to modify the unit’s features and change its parameters for a truly personalised DJing experience. By hovering their mouse over the remixbox’s virtual RMX-1000, DJs can edit features, change parameters or adjust effects on the hardware itself.
3. First DJ-dedicated controller for Virtual Studio Technology/Audio Units
As the first VST/AU controller dedicated to the DJ industry, the RMX-1000 brings the operability of hardware into the recording studio.
By just plugging the unit into a laptop, DJs and producers can use the RMX-1000′s dedicated controls to manipulate the VST/AU’s exciting features.
There’s no need to fiddle around with the mouse and keyboard: just hit a button, twist a dial, or turn a knob – the RMX-1000 literally puts every effect right at producers’ fingertips.
4. Other features
- High-quality sound design reduces noise for clear and pristine sound.
- The Quantize function can be applied at any stage during play or production for real-time music analysis and automatic synchronisation of the beat.
- NEW Auto BPM function automatically measures and follows the tempo of the music.
- USB-MIDI connection means the RMX-1000 can be used as a MIDI controller.
- Compact and sleek design makes the RMX-1000 highly portable – and it looks good as part of any DJ set-up.

MUSIC Group Unveils the BEHRINGER COMMAND Series DJ Controllers

MUSIC Group Unveils the BEHRINGER COMMAND Series DJ Controllers
Advanced, Modular DJ Control System Designed for Professional Performance
Bothell, WA – MUSIC Group announces the release of BEHRINGER’s first completely modular system of professional DJ controllers, the COMMAND (CMD) Series. A full-featured set of MIDI controllers, the line includes the CMD MM-1 Mixer Module, CMD DV-1 Digital Vinyl Control Module, LC-1 Live Control Module, CMD PL-1 Platter Control Module and the CMD DC-1 Drum Control Module
Pro features such as high quality faders, extensive MIDI feedback and rotary encoders with bright LED indicator rings are organized into a logical layout on each unit to ensure a highly ergonomic performance experience. Additionally, all CMD controllers are class compliant so the artist can simply plug and play without the need for additional drivers. While all individual CMD components work well as rugged and portable stand-alone controllers for most popular DJ and production software programs, the series is specially designed to easily connect multiple controller configurations.
The CMD Series’ MM-1 Mixer module emulates a 4-channel mixer experience with pro-quality faders, output metering, channel cue selection, 4-band EQs, and master/cue control, but also has an integrated powered 4-port Multi-TT, USB compatible hub to support any desired configuration, including additional control components, hard drives, audio interfaces, or even gooseneck lamps. The MM-1 MIDI controller also allows the user to quickly and easily scroll through music libraries and navigate file systems.
The DV-1 is designed to work alongside modern digital vinyl systems such as Serato ScratchLive and Native Instrument’s Traktor Scratch Pro 2, emulating the functionality of traditional gear such as turntables and CD players while unlocking a plethora of advanced software features such as looping, hotcues, effects, samples, and much more. As a single controller, it can be used to access advanced features for up to four software decks. If more discreet controls are preferred, multiple DV-1 modules can be used together.
The LC-1 is essentially a clip-triggering component with a unique ability to maximize the benefits of the Ableton Live software program. The clip section has 32 buttons that are backlit in multiple colors and respond to MIDI feedback. Also increasing accessibility for effects, there’s an effects control section above the clip area, with 8 encoders and 8 buttons. Below the clip area there are also buttons for channel mute, solo, and record. When paired with the MM-1 Mixer module, the combined feature set serves as an ideal Ableton Live controller – combining the clip triggering and effect tweaking power of the LC-1 with the mixing and scene navigating capabilities of the MM-1. The LC-1 is also a strong stand-alone controller for clip management, and also complements any Serato ScratchLive user’s Bridge-based setup.
The PL-1 is a robust platter-style software controller with an advanced 4” touch-sensitive wheel that offers powerful control. With a simple touch to the top the music stops just as if the user were touching a record. Nudge the side of the platter and it triggers instant changes in playback speed. The PL-1 features a smooth high-resolution fader for precise pitch adjustments, and includes a column of LEDs next to the pitch fader to quickly indicate software sync- induced pitch changes right on the virtual deck, alleviating the need to check the screen.
The PL-1 supports deck switching for controlling up to four decks, so a single module can serve as a backup deck or add-on when using software that allows for more than two virtual decks.
Drawing inspiration from the drum machine, the DC-1 presents 16 backlit trigger pads that allow for two-way communication of data info between the performer and their chosen software. Laid out into a familiar and user-friendly arrangement, the DC-1 has an array of 8 encoders and 8 buttons located directly above the trigger pads for controlling effects or changing application parameters. Located at the top of the unit, there is a complete navigation section with 8 backlit buttons and a fat rotary encoder. Also addressing the importance of a natural performance “feel” on a unit of this type, the DC-1 has tough 1” square buttons with just the right amount of give.
The CMD Series from BEHRINGER is a leap forward in DJ performance technology that offers a versatile suite of control options that allow the DJ to completely customize an ideal configuration for their individual performance style.
CMD Series Overview:

Gemini’s New SR Studio Monitors Help You Create the Best Mix Possible
Anaheim, CA – January 19, 2012 Gemini, an esteemed manufacturer of DJ and Pro Audio equipment, today introduced their new line of active studio reference monitors, the SR series. Featuring exceptional accuracy, high-quality components and sleek design, NAMM attendees can hear the precision of Gemini’s SR series at Booth 5700.
The SR series includes three active monitor configurations, along with one active subwoofer. For tight, clean bass response, the SR-5, SR-6 and SR-8 employ 5-inch, 6-inch and 8-inch glass aramid composite woofers, respectively. The stylish black cabinets also house neodymium drivers on soft-dome tweeters for articulate high frequency management. And to complement a powerful, full-range setup, the SR-10Sub sports a 10-inch woofer with 175 watts of high-efficiency Class D amplification.
The SR-5, SR-6 and SR-8 feature bi-amped designs with front-firing ports for the low frequency drivers and waveguides for the recessed tweeters. Volume and high frequency controls for the monitors, along with crossover frequency adjustment for the sub, also let users adjust their sound to suit their specific mixing environment.
“When it comes to monitors, accuracy is crucial,” says Alan Cabasso, President of Gemini. “Decent monitors can sound great in your project studio, but truly accurate monitors will ensure your mix sounds great everywhere else – your car, iPod, stereo, wherever. Gemini’s SR monitors were designed to offer genuinely precise audio so you can create the best mix possible.”
