October 6, 2017 by Trevor West
Ever done a Flipbook? Do you even know what a flipbook is? Basically, a flipbook is a series of smaller pictures taken in a certain order and then stapled together and when you flip through them, they look like the pictures are moving. It can be a great add-on to your photobooth business but before you start offering it, let me tell you a few things that I've ran into when offering this up-sell. First and foremost, it is a labor intensive endeavor, which means you're going to need some help. 1 person cannot do this all by themselves, I found that it takes at least 3 people to do a flipbook session. 1 person to run the booth, 2 people to ... Say Cheese!

September 14, 2017 by Trevor West
Getting your crowd to have fun in your photobooth can sometimes take alot of work, but thankfully most times it doesn't. But if you don't look like you're having fun running the booth, do you think your clients are going to have as much or more fun than they could have? standing around looking like your cat just died can send a negative image to your crowd and may actually make them not to want to come back again and again. I can't tell you how many times i've seen other vendors stand around at their booth looking like they just woke up, don't care, and certainly are not having any fun. I've seen the same with a lot of DJs as well, dressin... [read more]

Beyond The Beat: From DJ To Expo Producer

August 18, 2017 by Robert Lindquist
While attending the Mobile Beat DJ Show in March, 2016, I had the pleasure of sharing some chat time with Mike Anthony Mireles, a Mobile DJ/MC/Entertainer from Houston, TX. Our conversation was essentially a volley of random thoughts about to how DJs can expand beyond operating a DJ service. At one point, Mike referred to DJ’ing as an “entrepreneurial playground.” How true. When I think of all the people I have met during the years that I’ve been associated with the international DJ community—I am consistently impressed by those who have taken a giant leap of faith and have landed in a position that they themselves may not have realized as possible. August 16, 2017 by Jason Rubio

Who's too lazy to slice their own bread? Well, you know what happened after that. :) People want easy. As I mentioned last week, Amazon is winning, big, by making things convenient and easier! What does that have to do with you? Everything! What can you do to make your client's lives easier? How can you make things more convenient for your clients? Whether you're a DJ, a photographer, photo booth rental service, or whatever your business, you can always find ways to make things easier for your clients. How do you communicate with your clients? Do you "meet them where they are?" This means, communicate the same way ... [read more]

Why You Should Be Sub-Renting

June 12, 2017 by Stephen J Clayton
In my last blog, I discussed how to identify which equipment is smart for you invest in and how sub-renting that equipment can help supplement your income. But what exactly is sub-renting and why do we talk about it so much? Today I will be breaking down what sub-renting is and how it can be beneficial to everyone, from beginning DJ’s to fully staffed production companies. Sub-renting is when one company rents equipment from a colleague or competitor company to facilitate a client's request. Why is it smart to sub-rent our equipment? Sub-renting makes a smart decision when you don’t have the upfront capital to invest in the necessary equipment needed to facilitate a client’s request.  Or, maybe you don’t have enough confirmed events or rentals on the books to justify spending the upfront ... May 24, 2017 by Mike Ryan
Stephanie Crooks is a DJ and photo booth operator, and to say she is also a dynamo is an understatement. When I contacted her for an interview, she got back to me with answers to my questions within a few hours—by far the fasted turnaround for all the pieces I written. The driving force behind Stephanie Crooks Premium Soundz DJ Service in Pittsburgh, PA is an inspiration, proving that we can accomplish much if we put real energy behind our creative ideas and dreams.
