The Profile Page – It’s Back!

May 22, 2017 by Michael Cordeiro
Mobile Beat is always thinking of new ways to bring you better content. We strive to be on the cutting edge of what is new, important and relevant to our industry. We cover the big topics of gear, music, performance and people. The first three topics are very well represented in Mobile Beat, but we felt that the "people" section needed some attention. So, resurrecting the Profile page to spotlight those impacting the DJ world in a positive and unique way was an easy decision. Each month Mobile Beat is going to interview a DJ, entertainer or artist that stands out in our industry. We need YOUR input. It's a big world. Tell us who you would li... [read more]

Book of the Month: Unshakeable By Tony Robbins

April 28, 2017 by Michael Cordeiro
If "macro" and "micro economics" and "fiduciary" sound like items on an Indian take out menu to you, don't feel bad. Understanding the world of finance, the stock market, and planning for retirement is mind boggling. My eyes just glaze over any time someone starts "speaking" math. The hard truth is that in today's world of an uncertain economy and individual retirement plans, one has to be very savvy and knowledgeable to get ahead of the game and have financial security. Super lifestyle guru Tony Robbins' new book Unshakeable decodes the financial gibberish and double-talk of Wall Street into a navigable plan of action for financi... [read more]

Eagles Only, No Pigeons – Get Disrupted!

April 13, 2017 by Michael Cordeiro
We may not always realize it, but personal and professional development go hand in hand. We can only do our best when we are at our best. Many of us tend to put more emphasis on our professional skills than developing our life skills. We practice our microphone techniques, improve transitions, build better playlists and hone our mixing skills. Our spiritual, mental and physical well being takes work as well. How much time do you actually spend developing the best YOU? At MBLV21 this year attendees were blessed with many great seminars and speakers. One of the best was by our host - Todd Mitchem at the end of the conference. Todd's seminar foc... [read more]

20 Great, Non-Traditional Wedding Processional/Recessional Songs

April 10, 2017 by Jason Rubio
Every year, we have the honor of providing our DJ & photo booth services for hundreds of happy Austin and central Texas couples! We have played numerous, great bride/groom processional and couple recessional songs for many happy couples! More and more, we're seeing less of the traditional wedding march songs and couple recessional songs. We always tell our clients, "it's your special day, make it your own! There's no need to do what everyone else does. Choose the music and the songs that fit you!" The best part of many of these songs is that they can be used for the wedding march, recessional, or even the first dance. Also, many of these songs are gender-neutral. Here are some of the popular non-traditional wedding processional and recessional songs we've played over the last year. "A Thousand Ye... [read more]

Why You Should Always Back Up Your Music/Videos!

April 6, 2017 by Jason Rubio
If you ask any DJ or DJ company, what the most important aspect of their business is, you may get different answers. Some people will say the turntables or controller, others may say speakers, most companies will say great employees, but in my opinion, though all of those are important, even more important than all of these things, is the music! Without your great music library, you're out of business! You can have a great sound system and great DJs on your team, but without music, DJs simply cannot perform! I've heard of many fellow DJs having a hard drive crash, or external drive crash, and they have no music for a gig that's in a few days! This is a huge problem, of course! So ALWAYS back up your music files! How you back up your music is up to you. I, personally, do a combination of things to backup my... [read more]

Should I Go Full Time? Pt. 2

April 5, 2017 by Stephen J Clayton
Welcome back "Should I Go Full Time?" The series. Last week we talked about the "feeling" you get when you start to desire going full time. In this post we'll ask 5 questions that you will help you determine if it's "time" to go full time DJ. Obviously making the move from part time to full time DJ has a lot to do with your mindset, to begin. Are you mentally ready to take on full financial responsibility working for yourself? My basketball coach, John Masi at UC Riverside used to say, “you can’t be Mental Midgets”.  You have to be tough enough in your minds to overcome the obstacles in front of you. If you already have dou... [read more]

Chumlee Talks Music, Candy and Sneakers with Mobile Beat

April 5, 2017 by Michael Cordeiro
Undeniably one of the most popular reality TV shows of the last decade is Pawn Stars on the History channel. The show follows the dealings of three generations of the Harrison family and one lovable sidekick at their family owned Gold & Silver Pawn shop in old Las Vegas. The affable sidekick known affectionately as "Chumlee" also has a secret passion. He loves to DJ. I had the opportunity to catch up with him at MBLV21 this past March. MikeC: Thank you for coming by the convention today. I wanted to start out with a few questions about the show Pawn Stars. The show has been on air for almost 8 years now and has filmed over 400 episod... [read more]
