Stark Raving Fantastic - New Revo Rave

March 18, 2010

Stark Raving Fantastic!

Our Revo Series Revs Up With
The New Revo Rave RGBW LED Moonflower Effect

DJs and clubs everywhere will soon be raving about “the Rave” - the exciting new Revo Rave from American DJ. The latest addition
to ADJ’s top-selling Revo Series of RGBW
LED moonflower effects, the “Rave” is one
of the most compact, yet revved-up Revos to date, making it a great choice for mobile entertainers who want portability with a punch. Although it weighs only 9 lbs., the Revo Rave is packed with 162 high-powered LEDs (48 red, 36 green, 42 blue and 36 white) . . .. so it’s one petite powerhouse of an effect!

Like other members of the Revo family, the Rave produces brilliant, saturated LED moonflower beams in red, green, blue and white that are so rich in color, they look great with or without fog effects. What makes this Revo unique is that its 29°-angle beams are exceptionally wide, and that they project in multiple clusters, allowing it to create some spectacular and unusual patterns. Turn it on, and the Revo Rave’s beams will fill up a room’s interior space with thick spears of color that appear almost 3-D-like. The wide beams project clusters of dot-like images that create a myriad of eye-popping patterns, which dance and gyrate across floors, walls and other surfaces. Add in its color strobing effect, 0-100% electronic dimming and mind-blowing built-in programs, and the Rave will put any club audience in a trance.

“Everyone loves our Revo series; it’s made the transition to LEDs smooth for DJs, clubs and bands. The new Rave is a continuation of this series, created based the feedback we receive from our customers,” said Alfred Gonzales, National Sales Manager of the American DJ Group of Companies. “Our customers told us they wanted a Revo moonflower that was compact and lightweight for mobile use, but also made a big impression on the dance floor.”

Because it’s so compact and easy to use, the Revo Rave is ideal for DJs, clubs, small venues and mobile entertainers. It’s perfect for both beginning and advanced lighting users, because it can be operated in three different modes: DMX-512, Sound Active or Master-Slave. Operating on 5 DMX channels, the unit includes a 4-button LED display on the rear panel for easy navigation through DMX settings. For those who prefer the convenience of a plug-n-play effect, the Revo Rave can be operated in Sound Active mode - just turn it on and its high-energy built-in programs will kick in. To fill up larger spaces, multiple Revo Rave units can be linked together Master-Slave via 3-pin XLR cable. The Revo Rave is also compatible with American DJ’s optional UC3 remote controller (sold separately), which provides an easy way to control On/Off, Blackout and other basic functions.

Not only is the Revo Rave simple to operate, it’s also easy to maintain and haul around to gigs. Its long-life LEDs are rated at 100,000 hours, so they rarely — if ever — need replacing. You don’t have to bother with duty cycles either, because the Revo Rave’s LEDs generate such little heat that the unit can run all night without shutting down — plus you can pack it up right after the show without waiting for a cool-down period. Easy to transport because of its compact size, it’s also a breeze to set up, since it includes a convenient hanging bracket with a built-in safety hook. And, because it features multi-voltage operation (120-240V 50/60Hz), you can take it virtually anywhere. It saves energy too, drawing just 12W of electricity at full operation.

The Revo Rave measures 12″L X 12.5″W x 9.5″H and weighs 9 lbs. It has an MSRP of $279.95.

Like Madonna Says - XPress Yourself (with American DJ)

March 12, 2010

Xpress Yourself!

American DJ’s Xpress LED Moonflower Effect
Projects Excitement With 15 Color/Gobo Combinations

DJs and clubs now have the perfect way to “express themselves,” thanks to American DJ’s Xpress LED. A high-energy moonflower effect powered by a brilliant 10W white LED light source, the Xpress LED is loaded with 15 gobo/color combinations, putting a whole repertoire of cool-looking images right at your fingertips.

Not only does the Xpress LED project “gobs of gobos” on the dance floor, this sound-activated effect is easy to use - just turn it on and its amazing patterns will rotate back and forth and change to the beat of the music. Ideal for mobile DJs, nightclubs and small venues, the Xpress LED also includes an eye-popping strobe effect that you can flick on when it’s time to really rev up the excitement. Featuring a 34-degree beam angle and manual focusing lens, the Xpress LED will project clear, sharp colorful images anywhere in the room - on the ceiling, walls or even to spotlight a bar in the back corner of a club.

The Xpress LED isn’t “your father’s” gobo moonflower effect, either. With its state-of-the-art LED light source, its gobo and color effects look great with or without fog on walls, ceilings or dance floors.

Longevity is another LED advantage — the Xpress LED’s light source is rated at 30,000 hours, so users don’t have to contend with the hassle and expense of changing lamps. Thanks to the low heat generation of LEDs, the Xpress LED is a cool customer as well. It never gets too hot, keeping a comfortable room temperature for party goers on the dance floor and eliminating the need for on/off duty cycles. Plus, when a gig is completed, DJs can carry out their lighting effects faster than ever before, since no cool-down period is required. Eco-friendliness is another area where the Xpress LED’s energy-efficient LED source outshines halogen - its low power draw may just make “green” the most meaningful of its 15 colors.

“You really get everything with Xpress LED - a great moonflower that’s packed with gobos and colors, and the long life, low power draw and many other benefits of LED,” said Scott Davies, General Manager of the American DJ Group. “LEDs are the present and the future of our industry, and American DJ is fully committed to developing the greatest array of LED effects for DJs, clubs and mobile entertainers. The Xpress LED is a great addition to our LED lineup - it’s fun, easy-to-use, puts on a great light show and caters to just about everyone. Plus, you’re getting a very advanced lighting product at an amazing price.”

In addition to being run as a plug-n-play sound active effect, the Xpress LED is compatible with American DJ’s easy-to-use 3-switch UC3 remote controller (sold separately). A ¼” input for the UC3 controller is provided. Also included on the Xpress LED are in/out IEC power connections to daisy-chain power (up to 22 Xpress LEDs), as well as switchable voltage from 115 to 230V.

Along with being simple to use, the Xpress LED is also easy to install on the dance floor and haul around to gigs. It comes with a convenient mounting bracket and a safety hook on the rear that make it a cinch to set up. It was also designed to provide two things every DJ needs: low weight and easy portability. The Xpress LED tips the scales at just 7 lbs., and its dimensions are a puny 9″L x 8″W x 7.5″H.

The MSRP of the Xpress LED is just $229.95.

American DJs ProLight + Sound Booth To Feature Expanded Revo Series, Revolutionary Lamp Technology and . . A Creature of the Sea

March 10, 2010

LOS ANGELES - American DJ has a toolchest of lighting innovations in store for those who visit its display at ProLight + Sound trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany March 24-27. The company will show two new additions to its popular Revo Series of LED moonflowers, unveil a ground-breaking moving head with revolutionary Philips 5R lamp technology, and take the wraps off one of its most unusual special effects ever - a clear, see-through fixture named after its look-alike fish!

One of the stars of ADJ’s PLS lineup, the Jellyfish is a totally original LED effect with 84 RGBW lamps, housed in a unique-looking clear plastic case. Like its namesake fish, the Jellyfish radiates color through its transparent “outershell,” which makes it two effects in one: a bright red, green, blue and white beam projector; and a glowing case that changes colors. Unlike most fixtures that are best hidden away, the Jellyfish’s color-changing case actually becomes part of the light show! A DMX-compatible effect, theJellyfish can also be run in Sound Active and Master/Slave modes, featuring high-energy built-in programs, a color strobe and 0-100% electronic dimming. Weighing just 5 lbs., it’s great for mobile use. Plus, with no moving parts and 100,000-hour-rated LED lamps, it’s virtually maintenance-free. Drawing just 13W of power, it may also be the world’s first “green” jellyfish!

Another new ADJ light addresses the demand for smaller, more energy-efficient fixtures in a big way. The Vizi Spot 5R is a DMX moving head that blasts the output of a 575-watt unit, while being about ½ the size and using less than ½ the energy! What’s more, at just 27 lbs. it weighs about ½ as much as a typical 250-watt fixture, which also makes it much faster than most moving heads. How is this possible? The Vizi Spot 5R utilizes revolutionary new Philips 8000°K Platinum 5R discharge lamp technology, which in addition to delivering the above advantages, has an amazingly long discharge lamp life, rated at 2,000 hours. Despite its compact size, the Vizi Spot 5R is loaded with a full complement of professional features, including 7 dichroic colors, 8 rotating interchangeable gobos, 3-facet prism effect, gobo scrolling, gobo shake effect, 0-100% dimming and more.

ADJ will also be revealing the newest members of its top-selling Revo family of high-energy RGBW LED moonflowers - the Revo 4 and Revo Rave. Like their siblings, both are ideal for DJs and clubs, producing a roomful of eye-popping red, green, blue and white beams, while being portable and easy-to-use in either DMX, Sound Active or Master/Slave modes. The Revo 4’s 256 5mm RGBW LEDs create distinctive high-tech box-like patterns — matrixes, grids, squares and other geometric shapes. The Revo Rave is extremely compact with very wide beams, produced by 162 5 mm LEDs, which give it a lot of punch for its small size and make it great for entertainers on the go. Both units have a 100,000-hour lamp life and generate very little heat, so there’s no need for duty cycles. Plus, entertainers can pack up immediately after the show without waiting for a cool-down period.

These and other innovative products can be seen at American DJ’s PLS exhibit, located in Hall 11, Booth D51. “If there’s one theme running through our PLS show display, it’s that American DJ is continuing our commitment to bring the latest, most advanced lighting technologies to our core customer group - DJs, clubs and mobile entertainers. Whether it’s LEDs or the new Philips Platinum 5R discharge lamp, we are incorporating these cutting-edge technologies into fixtures that are compact, reliable, easy-to-use and fit within our customers’ budgets,” said Scott Davies, General Manager of the American DJ Group.

Mobile DJ Games: Perfect For Mitzvahs

March 5, 2010

For Mitzvahs, the games segment is (almost) a prerequisite. I begin with “passive” walk-arounds during cocktail hour. Laminating these 3 will make them permanent repertoire additions.

1. Large rebus puzzles. (Book stores have them.)

Both of these use 8″ x11″ paper:

2. Make a large triangle. Centering, print on 3 lines as follows:
Spread
some butter on the
the BIG sandwich.
As each kid reads it quickly, invariably most say “Spread some butter on the BIG sandwich.” But it doesn’t. It says “Spread some butter on the the BIG sandwich.” Adults get stumped, too!

3. Using a large, thick font, print one color on each line: RED ORANGE YELLOW BLUE GREEN PURPLE BLACK. But color them differently. Ask the kids to quickly tell you the colors. They’ll start by saying “red.” Wrong! It’s blue, etc.

Hand out numbered raffle tickets for every win. At the end, ask the Mitzvah kid his favorite number, then “OK, Josh’s favorite number is 2. If the last number on your ticket is a 2, you’re a winner!” 10% win. It’s fair, luck of the draw and no one complains.

When it comes time for the actual games segment, there’s life beyond “Coke & Pepsi” and “The Limbo.” There are contests which are SO much more creative. With new, interactive games, make your parties STAND OUT from your competitor’s.

YOUR PARTIES ARE ABOUT TO BECOME A WHOLE LOT MORE FUN! Check out MobileDJGames.com and mouse browse over 100 games and DJ “toys.” (800)296-2596
