Failure to Communicate – By Jim Cerone, MBLV20 Presenter

December 21, 2015 by Mobile Beat Staff Writer
Ever finish a party and then beat yourself up driving home? How come it never really took off? You got some people out of their seats, but not everyone. What’s missing? MakeConnectionConnection. To quote Strother Martin’s character in the movie Cool Hand Luke: “What we got here is…failure to communicate.” Here is what I used to do as a DJ: 1. Set up 2. Sit behind my table until dancing started 3. Try to guess what would make people dance Sound familiar? As the DJ, I thought my job was just to make people dance. Wrong, wrong, wrong. That’s when the Perfect Host concept was born. Our events are SO much more tha... [read more]

What’s the Plan? – By Rob Peters, MBLV20 Presenter

December 21, 2015 by Rob Peters
Plan-blocks I am planning a trip to Disney World with my family, and am very excited! Over the past few weeks and months, we have visited our travel agent and have made our reservations for airfare and accommodations. Anyone who has been to Disney World knows that it's not just a “sit by the pool all day and enjoy cool refreshing beverages” kind of vacation...especially with kids. It's a lot of planning: from booking dining reservations, getting Fast Pass times for attractions, and knowing what parks we are going to visit on certain days. When it is all said and done, I will probably need a vacation from taking the trip, but I know all of... [read more]

December 21, 2015 by Mobile Beat Staff Writer
PhotoBoothsInFocus5 Keys To Choosing The Right Booth - By Ryan Burger The following is a look at what you need to consider when making an initial or additional investment in a photo booth for your company. After asking some of manufacturers and suppliers, and some DJ/business owners who have purchased them, I’ve narrowed it down to the following list of things you should be taking into account when deciding what booth to buy. 1) Price: Of course this would be listed here, and for many people, this is the #1 thing to look at. But of course, you get what you pay for. There are professionally built photo booths available th... [read more]

Multi-Op Essentials

November 6, 2015 by JasonWeldon
KEYS FOR SCALING YOUR DJ BUSINESS SUCCESSFULLY Running a multi-op DJ company was something I always wanted to do. The thought of having a solid group of DJs that maintained a high level of talent, as well as being committed to their craft, excited me. MultiOp-blueI knew we could be one of the solid companies in the area and that we could honestly be a good decision for our customers. I just had to find the right way to do it. The right way to bring the vision in my head to the real world. Coming from an entrepreneurial family certainly did help. Making a business scalable was what everyone around me was doing with their businesses, so ... [read more]

What’s Old Is New Again

November 6, 2015 by Stu Chisholm
Basic RGBBLENDING ERAS AND GENRES TO MOVE DIVERSE CROWDS It started last March when I arrived at the Mobile Beat show in Las Vegas. That night, the Riviera’s notorious bar, Wicked Vicky’s, was the scene of the “DJ Takeover,” a mix-fest by DJs showing off their skills to friends, colleagues and a lot of stunned-looking tourists and regulars. The mixing, of course, was top-notch. What struck me as a bit odd, though, was the music they chose. These days, most of the DJs – perhaps all of them – are much younger than I, yet I couldn’t help but notice that they were playing music that I knew! Oh, sure, the tunes had been remix... [read more]

November 6, 2015 by scott_jarema
ActivePassive-grille-sqTHAT IS THE QUESTION   One of the best things about being a mobile DJ today is the almost endless variety of equipment we have available to us to do our job. Today’s DJ can choose from traditional turntables running vinyl or DVS software to DJ controllers, and even tablets. No matter your budget or personal needs, there is something that will fit the bill. Of course this always stirs up debate as to which is best option with regards to choosing the best speakers for our set up. For the mobile DJ, he or she has basically two options when it comes to PA speaker selection; active, (powered) speakers, or passive (... [read more]

Making Change

September 18, 2015 by JasonWeldon
Change signWhy is change so hard for us? Google that phrase and you will see over 1 billion hits. And you will find over 1 billion reasons that you will never have time to read. So therefore, you don’t bother, causing you not to change. I like to think that change is directly correlated to moments in life. Think about it. If you don’t need to change, you don’t. No one ever really seeks out change until a moment in life forces them to change. Sure, we think about change all the time, but do we ever really do something about it? We may give it a shot, but then we see that there are 1 billion things that need to be done. So we just go back t... [read more]
