May 25, 2017 by DJJay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. I found this really cool article off of a link on Facebook. It's the Seven Pricing Mistakes That Can Seriously Stifle Sales. So where do you come up with your pricing? Do you change your pricing? Is your pricing comfortable to your clients? Are you selling value? Are you selling time? Are you ending in the number nine? Are you using the context correctly when you're offering things? Are you explaining it correctly? Do you have various pricing so that different groups can see different values? It's a really cool article. I'm going to put a link to this. It's a HubSpot article in the end of the video down in the description. So check it out. Look at your pricing and look at some of the mistakes that are commonly made when it comes to pricing and see if you need to redo your... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Start your RMX-1000 effects turned all the way up

May 20, 2017 by DJJay
All right. Little RMX tip for you, normally gauge your effect and you do a build. Then bring the effect down. But try this new noise, first, bring the engager knob all the way over, then bring in the effect and then drag the effect backwards. So again, bring it all the way up, bring in echo, then tail the echo back. But again, you'd want to bring this all the way up first, then engage the effect and then bring the effect down. It could be a really cool feature on the RMX, a really cool way to add a nice little effect tail, in under a minute. ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Verify Names And The Order Of Introductions

May 18, 2017 by DJJay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute, you do your wedding, you probably do something similar where you have it setup where you have spellings done, the way you pronounce names, but you have an order. So here I have sponsor wedding party parents, ring bearer, flower girl, bride and groom. No problem, have a few songs, few things they don't want. Here's the problem and here's the tip, this is the order I was given, but at the wedding, what happened was I introduced the sponsors, no problems. Then I said the wedding party and as I introduced the wedding party, the parents came up, because after the fact, the coordinator told me, I always put the parents after the sponsors. So the issue isn't who goes where, it's knowing that ahead of time, because it made me look kind of stupid. And I was really clear when I ga... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Guitarist Can Plug Into Your DJ Mixer

May 11, 2017 by DJJay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. RCA to a 1/4-inch, just a cable, you've probably got them, you probably have one. It came in handy yesterday, because at the wedding I was performing, I had a guitarist and the guitarist showed up and looked at me and said, where's my amp? And I said, I don't have an amp. But fortunately, I know from experience that if you plug this into a guitar with a pickup and this into your mixer on the line, you can actually have the guitar play through your DJ mixer. I used a DJM-400 as a matter of fact, sounded great. Had to tweak the trim, had to tweak the channel, but sounded great. So it's one of those weird cables that sometimes you need to have, because you don't know what the outcome of the event might be or what you're expected to provide. So tips in under a minute, make su... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Monday get back to vendors from over the weekend

May 6, 2017 by DJJay
Hey, DJ tips in under a minute. It's Monday marketing day, I've decided, which means that I'm going to get in touch with vendors, get in touch with people I worked with over the weekend that had a good event with and see if they can help me out with getting business in the future and I can help them out by providing a great service. But I've also decided that I know so many vendors who I can see at an event, I haven't seen in a year and say, it's great seeing you again, I loved working with you last time, but nothing comes of it. So I think you've really got to stay on people's radar. So I've decided to start emailing people once a week, once every couple of weeks and if they get back to me and they're like, yeah, I've got a client coming up, great. If they don't, onto the next one, because I think we're g... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Speak To Any Music Vendor Who You Will Be Working With Before The Event

May 4, 2017 by DJJay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. My last DJ tips was about a cable I used to have a guitarist plug into my mixer, because there was some communication breakdown where the guitarist brought one amplifier for the cocktail ceremony, but didn't have an amplifier for the ceremony. I was providing a microphone. So I could've gotten away with a mike stand, speaker stand and microphone, but as usual, I bring backups. So I brought a full system of two CD players and a mixer just in case and good thing I did, because guess what, the guitarist had to plug into the mixer. So I used an RCA line-in with a quarter inch to the guitarist. The point of this video is speak to vendors you're going to be working with. Maybe not the photographer, maybe not the florist, the cake, but if you're working with anybody that plays m... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Trap music time

December 29, 2016 by DJJay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. I'm in Wikipedia looking up trap music. I've had a few people approach me about it and I had heard about it a while back. Even though now when I do my research, I find out that this goes back to the early 2000s hip hop, especially the southern stuff, TI, actually and now called trap music 10 years ago. But the reason it's coming up more and more is because people are doing trap remixes and you have a producer who's got a big track record now and this is trap. So this is a form of trap music. So when someone says, do you have anything trap, you at least can base it off this and it's a lot of [inaudible] snare and bass sampling and you'll see the repeats coming here in one second when you get that rapid fire, right there and then repeat it and repeat it. So that's trap. ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: iTunes value discs for DJs

December 26, 2016 by DJJay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. People are always asking me about music and where I secure my tracks from, because I get everything, to the best of my ability, from really reputable sources. This is iTunes, of course, but I also use Top Hits Direct, Full Tilt Remix, Promo Only POOL, Beat Port, Traxsource. There's a few different places I go to. But one of the things today is finding a lot of music for inexpensive money. As you can see up here, this is 50 electro house tracks for the price of $7.99. So what I've done is I've gone in looking for different artists and then found compilations they're on and as you can see, there are 50 tracks on this and it's a really good disk. So if you need to get good music and get a lot of it for not a ton of money, try iTunes and look for artists under comps. Good luc... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Video meetings with perspective or existing clients

December 23, 2016 by DJJay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. It's me, I'm opening up and checking on my Skype account. Gas out here in Southern California is approaching $5 and we'll probably go over that and a lot of my clients live an hour away, let's say. So to meet them anyplace that's reasonable, it's still costing me a lot in gas, time and effort. So I'm thinking of offering a slight discount or even just offering video meetings. A lot of my clients have iPhones. So I can go to the iPhone side and say, Facetime via Wi-Fi or I can do Skype. Skype is free. If you don't have an account, go to Skype.com, it's S-k-y-p-e, open up an account and get your clients to open up an account. All you need is a little camera and a microphone. I have a simple little Logitech camera with a microphone built in, USB plug-in and I'm up and runnin... [read more]
