DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Use Dot Laser Lights After The Formal Photos Are Done.

October 19, 2017 by DJ Jay
DJ Jay with DJ tips in under a minute. Most of us have one of these lights, these beautiful little laser lights, whether it's micro, whether it's a regular one, whether it's the galaxian, whether it's the atmospheric, a small one, a big one, different companies, I have lights from all different companies, but as much as I like them and as cool as I think they look, I've found out by talking to photographers that they're not keen on the little red and green dots on people. So outside of just showing them strictly on the ceiling, try this, run them after all the main photos are done. Have the light, tell the photographer, tell your client, tell everybody, you know what, I'm going to run these cool lights once your photos are done for all the formalities, special dances. We're going to kick the lights down and ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Try To Get The Bar To Move Inside.

October 12, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute, the bar is way back there outside. I want the bar inside. I should've fought for it, because that's my dance floor, there are all my tables, here's all my guests, here is my head table right on top of me, but the problem with this room is the bar they've taken and put it outside. So everybody that wants to get a drink throughout the night is going to head outside to get it. They can't hear the music or the announcements. It'll work out fine, it's not the end of the world, but from now on, I'm going to ask the bride and groom, where do you plan on having your bar? And if they say outside, I'm going to suggest how about having it inside? Because that way all the guests that I want to have dancing later on stay inside and chillax. So DJ tips in under a minute, if you have a... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: A Twist On A Bridal Processional.

October 5, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. I'm using Christmas music for an upcoming wedding. I've used this track before, I have kind of a rocker bride and she wanted something different that would speak to who she is for her processional. So I'm using "Christmas Canon Rock." It's actually Canon in D and it's done on kind of a rock tip. The group is Trans-Siberian Orchestra made up of rockers and metal heads that do Christmas music and this is what my bride's actually going to be walking down the aisle to. So she's pretty stoked, because it says who she is and it's a little dramatic, which my bride is. I've e used it before, it's gone over really well. So it's a great track. It's listed as "Christmas Canon Rock." So if you have a bride that needs something different, especially on the rock tip, check out Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christm... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: A Must Have Christmas Collection.

September 28, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute here, it's holiday time, Christmas time and one of the staples that I use is this, Gary Hoey, Ho-Ho-Hoey, the complete collection, 15 tracks, all covers, all instrumental style by Gary Hoey, an amazing guitar player who I've had the pleasure of hanging out with at NAMM a couple times and seeing in concert, just amazing guy. But it switches gears up a little up a little bit, changes the traditional kind of almost tired Christmas music and brings a little life to it. So I highly recommend this one, along with some other ones that I'll show, but this is a staple of mine. It's got upbeat tracks like this, this is "Jingle Bell Rock" and then it's got other tracks that are not quite as rockin'. So if you need to get your hands on some good holiday Christmas music for your partie... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Loungey Christmas Music For Your Parties.

September 21, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute, the lounge Christmas series, jazzy piano lounge, instrumental lounge, vocal lounge, whatever you're looking for, but a little bit different than the standard Christmas fare that you're going to get in the stores that everyone's going to hear throughout the holiday. So if you've got a holiday party coming up, check out some of these, they're called the Ultra-Lounge Christmas series, old style, kind of jazzy, big band-y, real classic, very kind of more on the upbeat and mellow side, but add something to the party. I always get compliments when I take these CDs out. I myself will do some Christmas music for dinner as well as cocktail and then kind of break off and do the party scene. So you don't need too much, maybe one or two of these, a Hoey CD and you're good to go. So a... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Christmas Lighting Package

September 14, 2017 by DJ Jay
Ho, ho, ho, it's the holidays and it's DJ tips in under a minute, your Christmas lighting package as you can see. Excuse the cables and wires, but this is what I'm offering to my holiday parties this year, a vibrant display of red and green, the colors of the holiday, at least out here in So Cal and this is something I'm offering as a lighting package and I'm selling it as Christmas colors in the lighting. And they say, what's that? I say, I do a wash red and green around the room. And because these lights are all close together, you probably can't see that too well, but that's actually coming off a little bit like an amber, because red and green are the primary colors for amber. So you've got a holiday party, you need a little something extra, try this, set your lights to red and green, run them around the r... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Marathon CD Case Becomes DDJ-ERGO Case.

September 7, 2017 by DJ Jay
DJ tips in under a minute and this is sort of a recurring theme with me, I have all this gear and I don't know what to do with it. This is a marathon, as you can see right here, four-rack CD case. Actually has four rows inside that carry CDs. I bought this at a DJ show, maybe Mobile Beat for probably $20. Nice case, it's got the little legs on the back of it, it's got this cool diamond plate finish to it, it's even got locks on it. Well, I took out the three pieces of wood that were in there as dividers to make the four rows and I found something. I found that it fits my ERGO. In fact, it fits it so snugly and so tight that if I lift the back up just a little bit, I could actually utilize the case on a gig, but this is how I carry my ERGO now, nice and snug and safe and fit, in under a minute.   ... DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Record Your Cocktail Or Dinner Sets Ahead Of Time In Serato DJ

August 31, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute for Serato DJ. As many of you who have this program know it does not have continuous play. So the days are just loading in a crate and playing, it don't work. So you hit that little button right there and you record. What I'm going to do today is record a cocktail set and a dinner set probably two or three of each one just so I have something loaded up. So if I'm going to be busy during dinner at a wedding, during cocktail running around, I don't want it to stop at the end of a track. I'm sure this is something that will change with updates, because I know a lot of DJs have complained that they want continuous play, a feature that is available in ITCH, I believe intro as well and I believe it is available in Scratch Live. So record your sets anyway, but more importantly, w... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Wear Your Wedding Attire To Your Holiday And Corporate Events

August 24, 2017 by DJ Jay
Hey, DJ tips in under a minute and I'm filming me. This is me in another video waving to you showing you the tie length. But what's important here is this was a wedding, I wore a black shirt, black pants, black Doc Martens and that white and black striped tie that I started wearing this year. The reason is because I want unity. It's a uniform, hence unity, but I also wear this to holiday parties. I used to go with a red tie or the red vest or -- but you know what, I want people to see me and think wait, I've seen this guy before, because you're in the same outfit from each event. So one more reason to kind of keep it together, if you're in the holiday season and you're not sure what do I wear to this event, wear what you'd wear to a wedding, especially if it's what you always wear to weddings, because then p... DJ Tips In Under A Minute: When Meeting With A Client, Send The Right Message With Your Outfit

August 17, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. This is a black t-shirt and it has crystals in it and as you can see, it's just a t-shirt, it's black, it's doing its thing, but if I was DJing in, let's say Miami at an exclusive club, I'd probably buy this for $400 and wear it to a meeting. You have to dress the part that you're about to play. When I meet with brides, even corporate clients, I often wear black Dickeys, black Dickey shirt and believe it or not, Converse Chuck All-Stars, black ones. There's that fine line between I'm a cool DJ, but professional and I'm a mess. I wouldn't wear a suit to a meeting. There are DJs that I know who would, because that's their image. I'm trying to portray the professional, yet cool DJ image. So when you go to your meetings, dress appropriate for the message you want to send out.... [read more]
