Once you establish a lighting collection, you will need to decide how you want to display your fixtures during gigs. Depending on the look you’re trying to achieve, you can choose to mount them to speakers, tripods or truss, or set them up on the floor or place them on tables. Read on and explore your options.
Speakers and Tripods
Use various types of mounting brackets, clamps and screws to securely mount fixtures to speaker stands and tripods. For added convenience, some fixtures will include a pass-through hole allowing it to slide onto the pole and securely mount in place. Mounting fixtures to stands adds height, increases security and broadens reach of the throw of the light. Before mounting fixtures, check the weight capacity to ensure your design doesn’t exceed it.
Incorporating truss into your setup gives you the utmost professional appearance. It is the most expensive mounting option, but it is also the most resilient, long lasting and professional looking. Using truss allows you to mount more fixtures and angle them in just about any direction, but it also increases setup time. Be sure to read the manual to ensure your truss design is set up properly.
Floor and Table Placement
Place wash lights on the floor and angle them towards the wall to create a vibrant wash, or set them underneath skirted cocktail-style tables to create a soft glow. You can also set your fixtures on top of smaller-sized tables and have them projecting on the dance floor. Before setting up, make sure there are enough outlets to supply your fixtures with power. Once all your fixtures are in place, tape down all loose cables to avoid a safety issue.
There are multiple tools at your disposal. Before you choose, weigh your options and decide what works best for you.
