Four Changes In Social Media Marketing You Need To Know About, DJs

April 2, 2016 by Tony Schwartz
Social media is constantly changing, and as the most popular marketing medium out there, you need to stay on top of these changes. Yes, it can be overwhelming, but who said running a mobile DJ business was easy? So, here’s four things you need to be aware of, DJs. Let’s go: INSTAGRAM CHANGES THEIR ALGORITHM Hopefully, you caught this, as many business owners made a pretty big stink about Instagram’s display algorithm changing to more align like Facebook’s algorithm. Now, unless someone has subscribed to notifications when you post, Instagram is going to display what it’s algorithm believes you want to see, and not necessarily the most recent posts. Essentially: if your Instagram posts don’t offer value to the viewer, they won’t be seen. In other words: Instagram now operate... [read more]

Gear Review: RCF ART 735-A 15″ Speaker

March 13, 2016 by Tony Schwartz
Quality sound reinforcement is imperative for mobile DJs. Period. As a full-time mobile DJ, it's always been a core belief of mine; I firmly believe that quality sound creates for a better, and more pleasurable, listening experience - even for the guests who don't dance. So, when RCF asked me to review their new ART 735-A 15" powered speaker, I was more than happy to oblige, as I've always been a fan of the Italian-made RCF drivers. So, for a little over a month, I took two ART 735-A speakers on the road. I played country bars, I played small private events, and I played larger private events up to 250 people. And I must say, I was impressed what these two active cabinets could do and produce all on their own. The vocals were sharp, the... [read more]

Respect The Psychology

March 8, 2016 by Tony Schwartz
psychologyFrom the looks of my social media timelines, it seems that several mobile DJs made “a more active social media presence” one of their 2016 resolutions. This is great! It’s awesome to see so many DJs finally realizing the potential impact a successful social media campaign can have on their business. However, with that said, there is something I see daily that needs to be addressed immediately: In order to be “successful” at social media, you must respect the psychology of each platform. Period. This means two things. First, don’t go for the hard sell right off the bat. Think of social media advertising in terms of the dat... [read more]

5 Reasons Why I’m Going to MBLV20 (And Why You Should, Too!)

March 7, 2016 by Tony Schwartz
In just one week, mobile DJs will gather at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas for the 20th edition of the Mobile Beat Las Vegas DJ Show. And honestly, I couldn't be more excited, mainly because I can't wait to meet like-minded mobile DJs like you. And if you aren't planning on coming next week, I'd like to change your mind and convince you why you should come. So, here's five reasons why I'm going to MBLV20 in Las Vegas (and why you should, too!): 1) Finding Inspiration MBLV offers mobile DJs a lot of value: keynote speakers, educational seminars, workshops, product demos, company parties, and more. I like to take as much in as I can, because in reality, all I need is one little idea that can inspire me with a new product or service offering that will net me several thousan... [read more]

Tony’s Playlists: 22 Soul Songs For Cocktail Hour At Your Wedding

March 2, 2016 by Tony Schwartz
I love a good soul song because deep down, you can't help but feel moved by it. Soul music gets you to sing-a-long, it gets you to tap your toes, and it puts you in a good mood. And that's why I believe soul music is a great choice for the cocktail hour of a wedding reception. 22-soul-songs-for-cocktail-hour And the best part is: soul songs range from the 1960s through today. Gospel, jazz, blue-eyed, Motown, neo, funky, retro, and more, are all inspired by soul music. Even different cities have its own soulful sounds, like Memphis, Chicago, Detroit, Philly, and New Orleans. Or go international and try some British soul. ... [read more]

No Response From A Lead? Try Sending This Simple Email

February 8, 2016 by Tony Schwartz
emailAs a mobile DJ, one of the most frustrating elements of the sales process is the "dead lead". You know what I mean: an inquiring couple shoots you an email, you stop whatever you are doing to respond as quickly as possible, and then... nothing. Subsequent emails also elicit zero response from a lead. A couple of years ago, I learned about this simple trick on how to revive a dead lead - for the life of me, I honestly can't remember where or who I learned it from - and now I'd like to pass it on to you. It's a simple concept, based on the understanding that text and email messages have replaced the telephone as the new ... [read more]

Bridal Party vs. Wedding Party: When To Use

February 3, 2016 by Tony Schwartz
Perhaps the biggest misnomer in a wedding DJ's vocabulary is the use of bridal party vs. wedding party. Many wedding DJs will use bridal party to incorrectly describe the bride, groom, and their bridesmaids and groomsmen, where as few will use the correct term, wedding party. Hence, the distinction in why I often use the terms wedding vendors vs. wedding professionals, as professionals are experts in their field, and experts use the correct terminology.

In regards to Facebook Pages, a fellow DJ writes:

"I keep getting all these new views on my Facebook business page, but nobody calls me. Because of that, I'm not convinced. Convince me." Now, I will make an attempt to convince you, or worst case, give you a strategy to try. In fact, over the next month, I'll be challenging all DJs & wedding professionals to seven-day challe...
