Creating Customer Demand For Your Services

This article and concepts are dedicated to Michael Port, author of Book Yourself Solid. I saw Michael in October and his ideas that have helped my pitch, sales process and bottom line.Studio 54 has a red velvet rope at the door. Hopeful guests line up to get in but not all make it through the front door. And not just anyone can attend. Is anyone with a check book your client? Or are you selective about who is your client?

Three weekends. Three Bar Mitzvahs. Two were great. One was absolutely fabulous! All three were from the same Temple. All three had a similar make-up of guests including many of the same guests. So what made the difference?

The first two Mitzvahs had clients with specific needs that I fulfilled, but limited their entertainment options. The fabulous event, that had everyone dancing, partying and raving at the end, was a client who allowed me to do what I do best – entertain.

I do my best work for clients just like you! A powerful statement which can truly excite a client, and close the sale. Know what you do best. Recognize clients who want what you do best, and let them know that you do your best entertaining for clients just like them.

Like Studio 54 you can create a sense of exclusivity about your service. Clients will then chase you down, instead of the other way around. It’s not about ego. Instead it’s about delivering to your clients just what they want because that’s what you do best!

By The Numbers

This week I have a clever way to entice multiple sets of guests to participate in a series games, dances or other activities. During cocktails/dinner visit the tables, be sociable, say hello, take requests, get a feel for the audience as a whole, and check the pulse of certain tables, and specific guests. It’s the usual DJ cocktail/dinner banter.At each table ask if anyone has their business card with them. Swap cards with the individual. If there are multiple offers, take all the cards you like, but decide to use only one card from each table for this activity.

If there are no cards at the table that’s OK – just casually get the name of a person at the table who you think is outgoing. Take notes as you go from table to table. Use the backs of the business cards or a place on your event notes.

Once you have a person’s name for each table, introduce each person. Ask them to stand. And stay standing. Explain that the person standing is “Number One”. We are going to “sound off” counting by numbers. The person to the right (of left if you like) is number two. The person to the right of number two is number three. And so on.

Make it fun. Have each person stand and shout out their number in a wave fashion. Everyone sounding off at the same time. Tables of eight will have the numbers one through eight. Invite guests to remember their number. Now you are ready to play!

Randomly call a number, invite all the number fours to the dance floor. With 100 guests, tables of eight, you should have approximately 12 contestants. Ready to play a game. They represent their table… Next call all the numbers twos and fives to compete against each other. Now you have 24 contestants.

Poor attendance at one of your December Holiday Parties? Lackluster audience? No prizes to give away due to a limited budget? Here is one solution that is guaranteed to inspire your corporate clients to hire you again this year!Have the H.R. Department send invitations with an R.S.V.P. that explains this year the company will request $5.00 for each R.S.V.P. And then return the $5.00 when they check in at the party.

At the check in they will receive their drink tickets, bonuses, and their $5.00 back. Or, they can choose to put their $5.00 into the evening drawing. Based on the number of employees who attend and the number who say, “Keep the $5.00″, which is most of them, 100 guests equals $500.00. 300 guests equals $1,500.00!

Depending on the amount, the holiday committee will decide to split the amount into even sums and raffle it off to those who did not take their $5.00 back. A little extra work? Yes. But well worth it.

The party I did with a $500.00 kitty gave 5 winners $100.00 each. And the $1,500.00 party gave 3 lucky people $500.00 each. It was inspirational, motivating and exciting for the guests who attended. And rewarding for those who won!

So, collect as much contact information as they are willing to share. Then be prepared to send them something via mail, email, fax… And not just one item but lots of stuff. Not all at once of course but a bit, drip, at a time.

Our tagline is – You have the dream… We make it happen! Dream is the emotional word. Facts tell, emotions sell. So we use a D.R.E.A.M. acronym.

Dramatic, Romance, Emotion, Ambiance, Memorable. We have an Email and Mail drip campaign that covers benefits and features of our services based on each of these ideas – How we can make their reception Dramatic, their first dance filled with romance, and so on.

This DREAM drip campaign is separate from, in addition to, our regular welcome package which outlines our rates, references and services. The plan is to touch the client with your company’s name, image, and ideas at least seven times to make an impact that sells.

Lots of work? Yes, but well worth it. While most companies lose interest after the first or second call back, or piece of mail, your clients will recognize your interest in their business and appreciate your follow up and follow through!

Making Your Business Thankful

Happy New Year! The busy Holiday season is over. Now the real work begins- Follow up and follow through. Performance surveys, thank you cards, and an offering of services for performances this year and last.Create a Thank You list. And say thank you often, in both a public and private way. Say it in person, over the phone, by mail, and Email. Send a handwritten note. Drop by the office with cookies, candies, and doughnuts. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just thoughtful.

Movie tickets for the movie buff, tickets to the game for the sports fan, dinner for two at a local restaurant, coffee gift cards and more. Check with your local Chamber of Commerce – there are always new businesses looking to promote their services that may offer a special discount on gift certificates for their services.

Accept, Acknowledge, Appreciate – These three As should replace the three Cs – Complaining, Condemning and Criticizing. Accepting, Acknowledging and Appreciating those who you work with, and for, will develop a positive connection that will go a long way toward building lasting personal and professional relationships.

An Attitude of Gratitude – Develop an attitude of gratitude that extends beyond the holiday season – Not just at the conclusion of each event, or upon the receipt of a referral. Instead think of saying Thank You, in addition to all the usual times, do so when it is not or least expected. This will distinguish you from the rest.

Related to this topic, if you do not have a database to manage your client list and DJ business, now is a good time to get one. And, if you have one, January is a great time to follow up with your clients and contacts, and update your records. There are some great options – DJ Manager, DJ Event Planner, DJ Webmin to name a few.
