So you may have thought about getting into the school dance market. Or you might have tried... but ran into a dead end making the connection? You may even question whether providing entertainment to schools is even worth the effort. 173-6-7I'm here to say, YES it is! I have a passion for providing entertainment for the school market because that's where I started over 33 years ago. I've had the opportunity to speak at several DJ expos about my experi- ence including Mobile Beat. What Technology Do You Use to Sell?

December 22, 2015 by Geoff Carlisle
The selling process is the same but the tools you use have changed drastically! What are some of the tools that you use to make the perfect pitch? What allows you to really identify the need so that you can fill the need? We first start with keen ears. Listening will lead you to the “needs”. Determining the needs can be hard. When asking a potential bride to tell you about their wedding, you may get very little. Asking them to describe what they envision may help. After we get their vision, we use our Ipad to show examples of how we can create that vision.sales tools... [read more]

Where are Photo Booths Headed

December 15, 2015 by Geoff Carlisle
We have been offering a Photo Booth type service for over 12 years. First it was a camera tethered to a printer & now we have a new L.A. Party Photo Booth that does everything but cook! Taking a photo & printing it out in multiple choice formats is the norm. Having the capability to shoot “green screen”, SloMo video, Gif creations, Light Paint, Morphing, etc is the new techniques that add so much more to your offerings to potential clients.photo booth The secret seems to be to sell each option separate. Too many choices overwhelms not only the c... [read more]

U Can’t Do It All – Delegate or Die

December 8, 2015 by Geoff Carlisle
As we grow I see that I can’t do it all. As a new entertainer with your first system going after a small or limited arena of business, you can handle the many duties of running your business. But as you add system, planning meetings, equipment prepping, selling, marketing, social media, maintenance, music updating, etc; you quickly discover you can’t do it alone! We started by hiring part time positions. First in the warehouse & then in our office. Adding staff to handle specific duties & allow them to grow into other responsibilities is what we are shooting for in each case. The secret is taking the time to show, explain & watch them as you delegate specific tasks. Sounds easy but the time that you use to train, you could have already accomplished the task. Patience is key.read more]

Drapery, Is It For You?

December 1, 2015 by Geoff Carlisle
Have you considered getting into drapery as an offering? Will having drapery help add to the décor options, especially your lighting? We recently jumped into providing drapery. We were asked many times by wedding planners & floral / designers if we had drapery. I always said no & I don’t want to get into it! Well, never say never! After two local Drapery / Lighting providers couldn’t fulfill some needs for smaller setups & after several of the same kept asking if we could provide draper, we took the plunge. Drapery can be a very expensive endeavor. We asked many others that are into just drapery & other entertainment companies that provide it as well for advice of how to get started. All suggested buying 100’ of White (Poly Premier) that is 16’ tall. This way we can cover ven... [read more]

Recruiting Staff

November 24, 2015 by Geoff Carlisle
Where do you find potential staff? IS there a secret source of willing & motivated people that can be trained in your approach? We have had great success in recruiting new staff from several local colleges. The best areas to look for students is thru the college’s job board. Many require us to get approved before we can post any job openings. But this source has a wide range of students with all different backgrounds.Millennials Another area is to connect with the college’s specific departments that relate to what job you are trying to fil... The Wedding Panel

November 17, 2015 by Geoff Carlisle
I recently had the opportunity to moderate a Bridal Panel at our local wedding networking meeting. I worked with a committee of wedding planners that are members of the group. Each planner invited a bride to the panel & we worked on specific questions that I asked during the discussion. We also sent the brides a “blind” survey asking questions ahead of time. These questions were not appropriate to ask in front of the whole group (budget, size of wedding, etc) We spent an hour asking about 15 questions to a panel of 6 brides. Questions from: What was the most stressful thing about planning your wedding” to “What service or vendor did you wish you had used but didn’t & why”. The brides were very cooperative & wanted to share their experiences & thoughts.read more]

Making the Upsell

November 3, 2015 by Geoff Carlisle
When talking with a client about their special event, do you listen? Really listen? Many times clients will tell you exactly what they want. So know you can explain what they need! Just listen. “I want a Fairy Tale themed party for my 16 year old daughter, she is our only daughter & I want to make it special”. What does that tell you? What is your next question? Mine would be – Describe what  special means? There is a technique that I learned a few years ago in Improve Training called, “Yes, And”.Wedd 5 (640x426) When the mom says we... [read more]

September 29, 2015 by Geoff Carlisle
We have clients that are always asking for us to send a proposal to them explaining what we have & what we are promising. Until recently, sending a proposal wasn’t a very polished email & certainly didn’t have any wow! I’ve been searching for the perfect proposal software that would allow us to deliver wow while managing our offerings. I finally found it – Event Chit Chat!
