DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Marathon CD Case Becomes DDJ-ERGO Case.

September 7, 2017 by DJ Jay
DJ tips in under a minute and this is sort of a recurring theme with me, I have all this gear and I don't know what to do with it. This is a marathon, as you can see right here, four-rack CD case. Actually has four rows inside that carry CDs. I bought this at a DJ show, maybe Mobile Beat for probably $20. Nice case, it's got the little legs on the back of it, it's got this cool diamond plate finish to it, it's even got locks on it. Well, I took out the three pieces of wood that were in there as dividers to make the four rows and I found something. I found that it fits my ERGO. In fact, it fits it so snugly and so tight that if I lift the back up just a little bit, I could actually utilize the case on a gig, but this is how I carry my ERGO now, nice and snug and safe and fit, in under a minute.   read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Record Your Cocktail Or Dinner Sets Ahead Of Time In Serato DJ

August 31, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute for Serato DJ. As many of you who have this program know it does not have continuous play. So the days are just loading in a crate and playing, it don't work. So you hit that little button right there and you record. What I'm going to do today is record a cocktail set and a dinner set probably two or three of each one just so I have something loaded up. So if I'm going to be busy during dinner at a wedding, during cocktail running around, I don't want it to stop at the end of a track. I'm sure this is something that will change with updates, because I know a lot of DJs have complained that they want continuous play, a feature that is available in ITCH, I believe intro as well and I believe it is available in Scratch Live. So record your sets anyway, but more importantly, w... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Wear Your Wedding Attire To Your Holiday And Corporate Events

August 24, 2017 by DJ Jay
Hey, DJ tips in under a minute and I'm filming me. This is me in another video waving to you showing you the tie length. But what's important here is this was a wedding, I wore a black shirt, black pants, black Doc Martens and that white and black striped tie that I started wearing this year. The reason is because I want unity. It's a uniform, hence unity, but I also wear this to holiday parties. I used to go with a red tie or the red vest or -- but you know what, I want people to see me and think wait, I've seen this guy before, because you're in the same outfit from each event. So one more reason to kind of keep it together, if you're in the holiday season and you're not sure what do I wear to this event, wear what you'd wear to a wedding, especially if it's what you always wear to weddings, because then p... DJ Tips In Under A Minute: When Meeting With A Client, Send The Right Message With Your Outfit

August 17, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. This is a black t-shirt and it has crystals in it and as you can see, it's just a t-shirt, it's black, it's doing its thing, but if I was DJing in, let's say Miami at an exclusive club, I'd probably buy this for $400 and wear it to a meeting. You have to dress the part that you're about to play. When I meet with brides, even corporate clients, I often wear black Dickeys, black Dickey shirt and believe it or not, Converse Chuck All-Stars, black ones. There's that fine line between I'm a cool DJ, but professional and I'm a mess. I wouldn't wear a suit to a meeting. There are DJs that I know who would, because that's their image. I'm trying to portray the professional, yet cool DJ image. So when you go to your meetings, dress appropriate for the message you want to send out.... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Suggest A Great Idea To Your Brides And Grooms.

August 3, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. These are digital picture frames. And a few years ago I suggested to a bride and groom, how about you take some photos, put them on an SD card, get a digital frame and then put it on the guest book tables so that people have pictures of you that they can watch. And I hadn't suggested it for a while, because people kind of moved away from it and they just didn't seem like they were quite as popular. I met with a couple yesterday and they're doing a memorial table for their grandparents. So I suggested it to them and they thought it was a really great idea and I realized, you know what, this is an idea that maybe shouldn't have gone away. So when you meet with your clients, if you want to add a little something, and as a DJ, I think we, especially with weddings, need to ad... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Video Montage On A Monitor Instead Of A Projector

July 27, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. Another audio/visual idea. I've got some clients coming up who want to do a video montage and my experience with video montages is that they are difficult, at best. There always seems to be an issue with the laptop, there's an issue with getting it fired up to the projector, it doesn't start right away and it's a big production to show a seven, eight-minute video. So about four years ago I had a client, who I have actually gone on to do four more events for, who I suggested, how about we just do a DVD, put it in the DVD player, hook it up to a monitor and let the monitor run all night looped and that way people can see the video montage, not worry about the music, it doesn't matter when they get to see it, but they'll see it at some point. I said this to my clients yesterday, they loved the idea, ... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: How To Remove The Track Name In Serato Scratch Live

July 20, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute for my Scratch Live guys that have asked me about this. I've got a track playing right here, you see I'm also going to do another tip video on this how to make these horizontal waves bigger, but up here on the top corner, you've got your BPM. On the top bar, you have your track name and you have your artist. What you do is you click on that so it says tap. You type in AM and you hit enter. What happens is the track name disappears. And this is anti-trainspotting mode, but it's also considered to be DJ AM mode where you can't see the track name. To reverse it, you go back to BPM, click on it, type in AM on the keyboard, hit enter and the track name is back. So if you are using Scratch Live and you need to protect the track, remember click on BPM, type in AM and hit enter, D... [read more]

DJ Tips In Under A Minute: How To Expand The Horizontal Waveforms In Serato Scratch Live

July 13, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute here with Scratch Live today. You see this, I've got the wave forms, you've got really four displays. You've got what I call library mode, you've got the traditional vertical mode, you have the horizontal mode and then you have dex over dex mode. Well, in horizontal mode, you can actually make these wave forms bigger. What these are showing is an amount of time. So go to your setup, go to display, go right down here where it says audio cash, bring that up, bring it all the way up to 60 seconds if you want. Then when you hit setup, voila, you have these huge wave forms in the middle. Now, it might take up a little more CPU usage, but I haven't found that it does enough to worry, but this is the way I like to run mine with Scratch Live. So you need bigger wave forms, go to s... DJ Tips In Under A Minute: Wireless Lighting Controller For $20.00

July 6, 2017 by DJ Jay
DJ tips in under a minute. I needed a new source of being able to turn lights on and off without having to touch them or turn on power strips, because I'll keep a light right by me or under the table and I don't want to have to reach down and turn it on, but I also don't want to go out and buy $100 controller. So I found this at my local Lowes. You'll probably find it at Home Depot too, it's a wireless Christmas light device. So this runs off a little three-volt battery and it goes to that, has two plugs, plugs into the power strip and I have three of those with one remote. So I can turn up to six lights on at a time. Now, I know you're saying, that's just for home use, that's this little thing and it is, but why can't I use it at weddings and other events to turn lights on remotely? Because that's all I wan... DJ Tips In Under A Minute: The Morality Police And A DJ, Extended Version

June 29, 2017 by DJ Jay
All right. DJ tips in under a minute. It's sort of a statement video. I got into a discussion with a DJ the other day about this song, because I've seen it in a bunch of middle school videos, sweet 16s and all that and this is the part I have a problem with. And I've got a thing about having 16-year-olds, 12-year-olds, 14-year-olds that are yelling when the DJ plays the track that says, "Where are my alcoholics, let me see your hands up." I know it's fun, I know it's a party song, I just personally think it's a bit inappropriate. Now, after everything that's gone on in the world, this one I don't know that I'll ever play this one again when it comes to doing an event. This is "Pumped Up Kicks." It might be a great song, the kids might like it, the kids might know it, but talking about somebody with a gun and... [read more]
