Event Tune-Up: Record, Record, and Keep Recording

October 28, 2015 by Bill Goode
When was the last time you recorded your event? When was the last time you took video and photos and used them to create a two minute story to post where potential clients can see it? When was the last time you showed photos and video to a colleague, mentor, or coach to review? Has it been a while? If you follow blogging/promotion guru Gary Vaynerchuk, one constant message he delivers is content is king. It does not matter what your platform is, your content needs to be fresh, engaging, and keep people coming back to your platforms. It needs to keep people interested in what you are doing. It needs to develop top-of-mind... [read more]

Event Tune-Up: Have Your Own Holiday!

October 14, 2015 by Bill Goode
As event pros, we love to celebrate. We have a passion for executing the perfect celebration and a drive to keep doing it. Christmas, Passover, Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo, Groundhog Day, there seems to be a holiday for everything and a celebration to go with it. Some celebrations go for just hours, others for days. Oktoberfest? That goes on for weeks. Halloween? That is usually a nighttime celebration. These are easy to plan for and large portions of the population celebrate them. For some event pros, these holidays represent a majority of their income and activity for the year. Others plan and execute events for all of these holidays, and more. What if standard holidays and events are not enough? What if you have a passion for something and think it is not represented? Why not create your own h... [read more]

Event Tune-Up: I’ve got Nothing…

October 7, 2015 by Bill Goode
I’ve got nothing. Nothing nice or bad to say about the horrible swill that surrounds me. Have you ever had a friend, potential client, friend, or colleague as you about a person, place, or something you don’t like? Do you grind your teeth and wish that personal hot button never came up? Is the question asking for an opinion on something that would take the person posing the question by surprise in a bad way? How did you respond? Did your response create issues for you? Being the event resource, people are interested in our opinions. All of us have opinions, good and bad, on those we have dealt with. We... [read more]

If you are caught not wearing green, expect to be pinched. The same still holds true for event planning, DJs, and other event pros. Some of the ways you can be green without breaking your commitment to client service, your bank account, and your back are listed in no particular order below: - Lights: It is safe to say LED lighting has transformed the marketplace. In the last couple of years, consumers have discovered the ... [read more]

Event Tune-Up: Recharge!

September 9, 2015 by Bill Goode
You are a MADMAN (MADWOMAN too)! You work 80 hour weeks, take very few days off, command the office by day and events by night. The phone never leaves your ear. Neither does your second phone. If a text comes at 2am, a reply goes out at 2:00 and 2 seconds. Your calendar rarely has a blank white space. Your car is a fully-functional office on wheels. Your work ethic is stronger than the copious amounts of coffee you drink. Does this sound like you? The answer I just heard was yes. (I can hear what you say, so WATCH IT!  ) read more]

Event Tune-Up: Please Cease and Desist!

September 2, 2015 by Bill Goode
As event pros, there are wedding and event traditions that are “sort-of” cool when they come around, but it is time to retire the following:stop financial crisis - Mason Jars: It was cute for about five minutes, but using them as part of event décor has been overdone to the point everything that can fit has been placed in them. It was part of Po’Folks shtick when they were in business, Grandma used them for preserves, and we liked them for holding change. Planners shake their head at these and know Pinteres... [read more]
