A school dance necessity (+ Safe Songs)

October 13, 2011 by Ric Hansen

As I meander through the stacks of new music released each week, one thing has become increasingly clear:  You almost have to subscribe to a reliable music service.  For School Dance DJs who need clean music,  it is almost impossible to clean it up manually.  The time it takes to edit a song that is both clean and rhythmically correct is prohibitive.  I-tunes “clean versions”,  just doesn’t pack it.  They cut out the F-bomb and the N-word, but don’t count on them to clip the hoe, bi**h, and sh*t among others.  I use TM/Prime Cuts which is great, but Promo Only and RPM (and maybe other)  have a great reputation as well.  I emphatically encourage our thousands of school administrators (SchoolDanceNetwork.com) to insist that their DJ subscribes to a reputable service, anything less and they are running a risk.

P.S  To those DJs who say they can edit on the fly by dumping the sound at appropriate times, you need to stick with the clubs.  One slip,  one F-bomb, and you’re banned from the district!

Here are this weeks (10/11/11)  “Safe Songs”

They are only safe if you have professional radio edits.  If you want this list and the DO NOT PLAY list send directly to your e mail each week…click here to become a “Responsible DJ” at the School Dance Network.
