Double Up!
American DJ’s Mobile Comscan LED System Offers 2 DMX Scanners
Plus Remote Controller In One Convenient, Compact Package
LOS ANGELES – The new Comscan LED System from American DJ puts the power of a complete light show of scanning colors and gobos right in the hands of DJs and mobile entertainers – literally. An easy-to-use LED lighting system, the Comscan LED Sys contains everything DJs and clubs need to create a roomful of high-energy visual effects in one compact package: two Comscan LED DMX scanners, one universal UC3 handheld remote controller, and the required DMX cable for linking the units together.
Driven by an advanced high-performance LED source, each Comscan LED scanner projects 8 brilliant, dazzling color/gobo combinations that scan across the room in wide, sweeping X-Y mirror movement. Featuring a 13° beam angle, the units can pan up to 166° and tilt up to 54°. Adding to the excitement are a variety of eye-popping built-in lighting programs, a Gobo Shake effect, a Strobe effect and 0-100% dimming capabilities.
For all its punch and panache, the Comscan LED System is amazingly compact and portable, making it great for DJs, bands and mobile entertainers who want an exhilarating light show that packs up easily. Each Comscan LED scanner measures just slightly over a foot long and weighs only 8 lbs./3.6 kg. What’s more, the system is simple to operate with the included UC3 remote, which fits into the palm of your hand and provides easy control over Blackout, Programs, Strobing and other functions.
“The Comscan LED is the ultimate system for any mobile entertainer who wants the high-energy movement and professional look of a DMX scanner light show,” said Scott Davies, General Manager of the American DJ Group of Companies. “You get a great value – two scanners, a remote controller and cable – for one very affordable price. Plus, the system is perfect for taking on the road, because it’s so compact and lightweight. And our easy-to-use UC3 controller makes it simple for anyone to put on an amazing, professional-looking light show.”
In addition to being operated with the UC3 controller, the Comscan LED scanners are DMX compatible and can be used with any DMX-512 protocol controller, such as American DJ’s LED Operator or MyDMX software. Operating on 5 DMX channels, the scanner has a convenient 4-button menu system with LED display on the back, which makes it easy to navigate through DMX settings. The Comscan LED System can also be operated in Sound Active and Master-Slave modes. When four units are linked together Master-Slave, the system features a Pan/Tilt Inversion Mode, in which scanners 1 and 3 will sync together in the opposite direction of scanners 2 and 4.
Another feature of the Comscan LED System that users will appreciate are its low maintenance requirements. The scanners’ long-life LEDs are rated at 30,000 hours, so there’s no need for frequent lamp replacements. Because its LEDs produce very little heat, the system can run all night without shutting down for duty cycles. Its LED source is also very energy efficient; each scanner draws only 30W of power at maximum use.
The Comscan LED System features state-of-the-art 1.8° stepper motors with microstepping for smooth, fluid movements. The system includes a manual focusing lens and comes with a convenient hanging bracket with a safety hook for easy mounting. Compact and lightweight, each unit measures 13.5”L x 6.25”W x 8”H/344x 160 x 200 mm and weighs 8 lbs./3.6 kg.

American DJ’s Dekker LED Energizes The Dance Floor
April 19, 2010
Quintuple Dekker!
American DJ’s Dekker LED Energizes The Dance Floor
With RGBW Beams Radiating From 40 Lenses
LOS ANGELES – Discos and clubs will be decked out in dazzling excitement when they turn on the Dekker LED from American DJ. A high-energy DMX-512 LED effect, the Dekker LED projects red, green, blue and white beams from a massive grid of lenses that runs 5 high and 8 wide – for a total of 40 lenses in all!
Containing two powerful 5-watt RGBW LEDs, the Dekker LED’s brilliant output and large matrix of lenses allow for a variety of bright color effects and an action-packed light show that covers a wide area of the dance floor. Yet this easy-to-use effect is also very compact and lightweight, making it great for DJs and entertainers on the go.
The Dekker LED’s combination of eye-popping visual energy and mobile-friendliness is no accident, says Scott Davies, General Manager of the American DJ Group of Companies. The effect was modeled after another legendary DJ/club light:
American DJ’s world-famous Aggressor.
“You can think of the Dekker LED kind of like an Aggressor on steroids,” commented Davies. “It has the same basic grid-like design and similar appearance, but it’s got many more lenses, and upgraded professional features like DMX control. And, of course, it’s powered by LEDs, which make it extremely cool-running, energy-efficient and virtually maintenance-free.”
The fact that the Dekker LED goes beyond the typical red-blue-green LED mix to include white LEDs as well, makes for even greater excitement. Set against white LED beams, the other colors appear bolder and richer with a rainbow-like aura. Plus, when blended with the other colors, the white LEDs allow for the creation of softer pastel hues.
High-energy built-in programs, a pulsating strobe effect and 0-100% electronic dimming add to the Dekker LED’s breathtaking excitement. What’s more, users can choose between fast and slow dance programs, giving the Dekker LED the versatility to accommodate a whole night’s worth of music.
The Dekker LED can run all night without interruption, too, because its cool operating temperature eliminates the need for the on/off duty cycles that are mandatory with heat-generating halogen effects. Additionally, its long-life LEDs last much longer than halogen lamps, with a rating of 50,000 hours. Another big advantage of LED technology is energy savings; despite its high-energy performance, the Dekker LED consumes only 25 watts of power at maximum use.
To accommodate users of different levels, the Dekker LED can be operated in four different modes: DMX, Sound Active, Master/Slave or Manual. When using a DMX controller, users can further choose between 2-channel or 8-channel modes, the first giving control over programs and other basic functions, and the second adding RGBW color-mixing capabilities. An adjustable sound-active sensitivity dial allows users to set varying degrees of responsiveness to music when in Sound Active Mode. The Dekker LED can also be operated remotely with American DJ’s optional UC3 remote controller (sold separately).
The unit includes In/Out IEC power connections to daisy-chain power. It features multi-voltage operation: AC 100V-240V 47/63Hz. Compact and portable, its dimensions are 11”L x 10”W x 10.25”H/280 x 251 x 260mm, and it weighs 9 lbs./4 kg.
The MSRP of the Dekker LED is $219.95.

Bursting Out with American DJ DMX LED Fixture!
April 15, 2010
Bursting Out!
American DJ’s New Color Burst 8 DMX
Takes LED Color Wash Excitement To New Lengths
LOS ANGELES – American DJ has turned a burst of color into a blast! The company has doubled the size of its original Color Burst LED RGB+A color wash bar, creating a new, exciting, elongated version, the Color Burst 8 DMX.
Now featuring 8 colored LED banks – two banks each of red, green, blue and amber – the Color Burst 8 DMX is twice as long (2-1/2 feet) and has twice has many LED lamps (280) as the original. Equipped with built-in high-energy programs, this easy-to-use, affordable LED bar will produce thrilling, eye-popping color chases to the beat of the music, making it great for DJs, bands, clubs and bars who want to liven up their gig or venue with a burst of color.
The Color Burst 8 DMX isn’t only bigger than its predecessor, it’s also got added features: DMX control, a strobe effect and 0-100% electronic dimming. These professional tools make the Color Burst 8 DMX even more exciting and versatile, allowing users to add color strobe and color fade effects and create their own programs via a DMX controller. Operating on 3 DMX channels, the unit features a 4-button LED display menu system that makes it easy to navigate through DMX settings.
But you don’t need a DMX controller to unleash the Color Burst 8 DMX’s amazing color chasing effects. For users who want total ease of operation, the LED bar can be run in Sound-Active mode as a simple plug-and-play effect, moving and chasing to its own internal programs. Another easy way to run the Color Burst 8 DMX is with American DJ’s optional universal UC3 remote controller (sold separately), which gives fingertip control over basic functions like Blackout and Program Selection. For those seeking bigtime drama, multiple Color Burst 8 DMX units can be linked together Master-Slave to produce coordinated color washes and chase effects over a large area.
“When it comes to club lighting effects, bigger is often better, which is why we developed the Color Burst 8 DMX,” said Scott Davies, General Manager of the American DJ Group of Companies. “Our original RGB+A color wash bar, the Color Burst LED, has been very popular, so we wanted to take it to the next level and come out with a larger, more featured version. But at the same time, we wanted to keep the easy-operation and affordability that made the original so well-liked by working DJs, mobile entertainers, bands and small clubs. The new Color Burst 8 DMX delivers the best of both worlds.”
The Color Burst 8 DMX also delivers the same LED technology-driven benefits as its predecessor, including a cool operating temperature, which allows it to run all night without shutting down for duty cycles. Additionally, its LED bulbs have an extremely long life – 100,000 hours – which virtually eliminates the hassle and expense of lamp replacement. Its LEDs also offer the advantage of being very energy efficient, consuming just 25W of electricity maximum at full use.
Although it’s bigger than its predecessor, the Color Burst 8 DMX is still very lightweight and portable, weighing just 5 lbs./2.2 kg, making it ideal for mobile use. It measures 28.25″L x 3″W x 5″H/16 x 72 x 127 mm. The unit comes with a hanging bracket and can be hung either horizontally or vertically, so it can fit into a variety of spaces and applications.
The MSRP of the Color Burst 8 DMX is $229.95.

DJ Intelligence to present seminar at NADJ tradeshow in UK on April 25th
April 5, 2010
DJ Intelligence will be presenting a seminar at the upcoming NADJ AGM & tradeshow on 25 April, 2010 at the Barn Function Centre in Gloucestershire, UK. The NADJ is the National Association of Disc Jockeys, a leading trade association for professional mobile DJs in the United Kingdom. DJ Intelligence will have a representative on hand to present the seminar, provide a full demonstration, and answer any questions from the group.
The UK is DJ Intelligence’s 3rd largest market, with over a thousand professional DJs using the software. DJ Intelligence is owned by Intelligence, Inc., a US-based company, but the service itself is fully optimised to fit the unique needs of the UK market. “While we do not hide the fact that we are a US-based company, we want DJs in the UK to feel as though they are transacting business with a UK-based company. In short, we want UK DJs to feel extremely comfortable doing business with us and know that they will receive all the same advantages as working with a local company” said Scott Kartsounes, CEO of DJ Intelligence parent company Intelligence, Inc.
One of the hallmarks of this mission is DJ Intelligence’s 24×7 support operation, a rarity in this industry. Even with the 6 hour time difference between the UK and US, UK-based DJs will have full confidence in knowing they can reach someone to answer their questions, day or night. “DJ Intelligence is critical to the operation of your DJ business. You need to be able to reach us anytime and we need to be available around the clock, regardless of local business hours or time differences” said Kartsounes. “Our reputation is built on first class customer support.”
DJ Intelligence also configures for local UK standards, including address formats (i.e. “House Number and Street” instead of “Address” or “Postal Code” instead of “ZIP Code”), currency formats (i.e. UK Pounds £ instead of US Dollars $), and advanced features such as the availability of travel charge (mileage) calculations within the Quote Generator tool and NoChex, a popular UK payment processor, within the Payment Gateway tool. “We have taken very careful consideration to determine the best way to serve DJs in the UK market. DJ Intelligence’s development is fueled directly by actual DJs who use the service. Through our UK subscribers, we have done extensive research to learn about local standards to ensure we conform as closely as possible. Of course if there are ever any details that have been overlooked, we are eager to make those changes” said Darren Hughes, President of Intelligence, Inc. and head of software development. “It is our goal to be the most flexible and powerful solution available in the UK market.”
To learn more about DJ Intelligence, please visit http://djintelligence.com. If you are located in the UK and are interested in attending the tradeshow and DJ Intelligence seminar, please visit http://www.nadjtradeshow.com for full details. You do not have to be a member of the NADJ to attend the show.
Rectangular Rainbow – American DJ’s Versatile Profile Panel RGB
April 5, 2010
Rectangular Rainbow!
American DJ’s Versatile Profile Panel RGB
Is Bright LED Color Wash And Chase Effect In One
LOS ANGELES – No lighting toolchest should be without the new compact, versatile Profile Panel RGB color panel from American DJ. A multi-use high-output indoor LED color-changing panel, the Profile Panel RGB casts smooth color washes to create the perfect mood at nightclubs, theaters, weddings and special events. Then, when the evening heats up, this “two-effects-in-one” panel can transform into a disco light, stepping up its color changing pace, strobing in every color, and chasing to the music via exciting built-in programs.
Small but powerful, the Profile Panel RGB is armed with 288 5mm LEDs (96 each red, green and blue). Its LEDs can be blended through RGB mixing to create virtually an infinite number of rich colors, with a smooth even wash field that looks great anywhere — from live theater performances to indoor architectural applications.
As affordable as it is adaptable, the Profile Panel RGB has a suggested retail price of less than $200. Its versatility, compact size and low price tag should win it a large following among many different types of lighting users, said Scott Davies, General Manager of the American DJ Group. This is especially true today, since there’s a growing trend to use more color washes as uplighting at all kinds of venues and events, Davies noted.
“The Profile Panel RGB is a great way for DJs, small clubs and event planners to get into uplighting, which is becoming a more popular way to illuminate clubs, weddings and special events,” said Davies. “Not only is the Profile Panel RGB a compact, easy-to-use color wash, it’s also a two-in-one effect because it can double as a disco club-type light. So it’s a piece that gives you a lot of value and functionality for the price, which is something that customers are demanding in today’s economy.”
There are a lot of different options for operating the Profile Panel RGB, making it an ideal piece for novice and experienced lighting users alike. A DMX compatible unit, it can be run in 7 different DMX modes – 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 24 & 27-channel – giving operators varying degrees of control over its functions. A convenient 3-button LED display on the rear panel helps users navigate through its DMX settings. It can also be run without a controller in Sound-Active mode to its own high-energy built-in programs. Multiple Profile Panel RGB units can be linked together Master-Slave. Remote control is also a possibility since the unit comes equipped with a ¼” input for American DJ’s universal UC3 remote controller (sold separately).
However you operate it, the Profile Panel RGB is a great tool for adding color wherever it’s needed, whether uplighting objects and surfaces, or energizing the dance floor with eye-popping effects. Featuring a 40° beam angle, it includes 0-100% electronic dimming, a color strobe effect, and fast or slow color change operation.
The Profile Panel RGB also ideal for illuminating stage shows, because its cool-running LED lamps don’t emit a lot of heat onto performers the way traditional theatrical lights do. This LED technology offers other benefits as well, such as a long lamp life (rated at 100,000 hours) and low energy usage (37-watt power draw), allowing users to save big on maintenance and electricity costs.
Lightweight and extremely portable, the Profile Panel RGB measures 16.75″L x 9.5″W x 2″H/425 x 240 x 51.5mm and weighs 7 lbs. / 2.9 kgs. It comes with a versatile mounting bracket for hanging either on truss or a wall.
The MSRP of the Profile Panel RGB is $199.95.
