Alesis Mastercontrol Audio Now Available

Cumberland, R.I. (Dec. 29, 2008) - Alesis, the world’s leading manufacturer of professional audio equipment and studio electronics, announces that the MasterControl audio interface and control surface is now shipping. MasterControl will be on display at the 2009 NAMM Show in Anaheim, Calif., January 15 - 18, 2009 at the Alesis booth, number 6400.

 

MasterControl is a professional audio interface and recording control surface, providing engineers with 44.1 - 192kHz-recording capability via ultra-fast, low latency FireWire and full-featured control of HUI-compatible DAWs and external MIDI devices.

 

MasterControl contains a broad swath of input and output connectivity, empowering studio owners and producers to connect nearly any source, processing or monitoring equipment. The input section consists of two XLR inputs with phantom power and channel inserts, six TRS line inputs and extensive expansion capability. Twenty six simultaneous inputs are possible with the optional S/PDIF and dual S/MUX ADAT Lightpipe inputs. Six analog outputs are configurable for use with 5.1 surround, three sets of stereo pairs or six discrete outputs. MasterControl offers dedicated speaker switching, enabling mix engineers to dynamically select between multiple monitors to check their mixes on different speakers or in different rooms. A stereo headphone output is also provided for an additional mix reference.

 

Each channel contains dedicated Solo, Record Enable, Mute and Select buttons for instant access to the most essential channel functions. The large, multifunction jog wheel can be used to shuttle, zoom and enter data. Nine 100mm-motorized faders and a dedicated transport-control section provide guess-free access to the most crucial recording operations. Two banks of eight assignable buttons enable users to customize functionality for commonly used actions such as markers, loop points and automation modes.

 

Eight 360-degree assignable virtual potentiometers with three banks each enable engineers to control 24 different parameters for extensive control of nearly any DAW. Removable, customizable templates provide a visual overview of all preset operations. All presets are fully editable and configurable.

 

Designed as a complete solution for studios’ recording and mixing needs, MasterControl contains a talkback microphone, a complete MIDI interface and a Preview button enabling review of knob, button and fader settings before sending them to the DAW software.

 

MasterControl comes bundled with two award-winning software applications for recording and sequencing. Steinberg Cubase LE 4 and Ableton Live Lite 7 handle all recording, editing and performance tasks and are compatible with most other popular music software.

 

“MasterControl is the missing link for professional and home studios alike,” said Jim Norman, Product Manager. “It’s quite simple in concept: you plug it into your computer, plug in your sources and monitoring system and you’re ready to record. It’s OK to make a sale at a Bridal Show

This morning, I had an animated exchange with a DJ company owner. Tonight I’m giving a presentation at the Las Vegas Wedding Network, and we were discussing some of the points I’ll be making.

Part of my opening volley will be to address the various reasons a company will be exhibiting at a show (or shows) this season. I have about a dozen reasons, and I’m betting most companies don’t have more than two or three.

Our point of difference was about ‘closing sales.’ Yo!! If the prospect is ready to hire your service, you’re telling me you want them to schedule an appointment to do that?

In my world, you have 3-part agreements (no carbon required) or your laptop and a small printer, and you bang out the agreement. All I was hearing esoteric jive about ‘wanting to get to know the client and her needs.’ That’s very nice, and also important; however, unless you are in the habit of turning down bookings, frequently, because you don’t like the prospect, then JUST SAY YES!!

This is not being aggressive; it’s being agreeable. In the few days between the show and an appointment, another company may close that sale because YOU didn’t know how to say, “I’m glad you want to put us to work.  Let’s go ahead and firm up that date for you.“

Yes, bring a credit card machine or use your computer as a virtual terminal. Also take checks, cash, or food stamps… well maybe not food stamps.

What’s the flurry of activity in your booth? It’s you, finalizing one or more bookings. Other people see it, and are magically drawn to your booth and your service. Now watch the dominoes begin to fall.

Will all brides want to book at a show? No, of course not. And I’m not suggesting you push them. But if the buying signs are there, then ask the question: Do you want to meet with us at the office in a few days, or would you like to firm up the basic booking, today, to be certain we’re available? - THEN SHUT UP! - Depending on the answer, either book the appointment or book the gig.

A Road Runner To Push Your Gear Around

The smallest, heavy-duty, collapsible cart on the market today has been completely re-engineered from the ground up and is now available from Grundorf. Measuring only 9.63″ x 16.5″ x 23″ collapsed, the Road-Runner, light- weight cart weighs in at just over 19 pounds. The frame has been redesigned to provide additional strength for heavier loads.

The Road-Runner cart now has a black, shock-absorbing, padded, comfort grip on the handle. Additionally, the handle collapsing mechanism has been improved to provide an extremely smooth operation. The platform lock has added a spring and a slotted lock keeper to keep the platform locked securely in place.

The wider, 4″ soft-rubber casters have been retooled. The design includes a large hub and sealed ball bearings for long life. The unique wheel brake design stops both rotation and swivel at the same time. The improved brake design can now be locked and unlocked with the touch of a toe.
